3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Finally, a Welsh rate. RateBeer has been discretely badgering me about it for years - it’s the easiest country to nail that you haven’t rated, the stats say. Damn it, RateBeer, I’m trying, honest! Welsh beer seems to travel to Australia about as rarely as the rugby team these days. Shame. My low expectations for this ale, stumbled on in a pretty run-of-the-mill country bottlo, were pleasantly surpassed. Gold with a chill haze and a loose, shallow head. Fresh, malt-dominated aroma. Lemon, honey and 3am rolls. Palate seems mildly underdone - verging on flat. May be the bottle age or an attempt to mimic cask conditioning? Bread, bread, bread on the tongue. May be the breadiest ale I’ve come across. No complaints here. Bit herbal, bit floral. Overall, one of the best bottled ales I’ve had from the UK, with none of that nasty pasteurised lolly taint. Nice work. (500ml bottle from D’Vine Cellars, Wentworth Falls. BB 4/11/13)

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Lovely aroma of gentle malt with light touches of berries. Pleasant taste of light caramelized malt sweetness and fresh berries could recall little raspberry / gooseberries, simply by almost as much acidity. A very perfect and balanced blond ale, which unfortunately ends in a little bright hoppy finish. The flavors is like fine fruity sophistication that can be found in so many English hops. It is a bit too hops sharp for my taste, and it’s ’muddy’. Otherwise fine flavors together a bit in the end. It’s a shame, because I think that a more gentle aroma hops instead would have created a gentle and light blonde ale.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle into glass (as Golden Crafted Ale). Fruity hoppy/sweet malt nose. Hazy golden beer with towering fluffy white head. Many fine bubbles. Full of pine bitterness that leads to a tonic water/bitter lemon finish. Quite clean and refreshing.

Cask at the Beer Cellar, Exeter. Far too much dry hops completely masking any other flavour.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Notable

2x500ml bottles as "Golden Crafted Ale" bb09/2016, over 3 months period, danke Dirk. Richly expressive, unidimensionally tropical nose of mango&peach mousse, papaya, lemon curd: definitely merging into APA Citra territory here. The juiciness in taste is curbed by an unbalanced piney and lingering grapefruit-pithy bitterness running underneath, overplaying the delicate UK malt base. This golden ale wants to a zippy APA at all cost and you can taste and feel both the aspiration and the conflict in that in mouthfeel.

Nice IPA close to being a British bitter. Drunk at room temperature from pint glass; 500ml bottle bought from Fusion supermarket in Hong Kong. Appearance is cloudy yellow-brown with big soapy coloured head. Aroma of lemons and coriander, very hoppy. Very dry on the palate, but nice softness with low carbonation. Tastes of walnut, grass. Lacks nuance but very drinkable.
