Bottle. Pours a burnt copper with a half finger or rapidly settling white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is malty, mildly bitter and hoppy. Flavor is malty, bitter, and soapy. Slight malt finish. Overall the flavor is relatively mild and fleeting. Some balance between hop and malt, but both are lacking. Moderate carbonation, light body, and mildly watery texture. Rather disappointed with this one.

Clear amber, no head. Pale malt, bread in the aroma. Flavour is malt, some sweetness, fairly standard English ale stuff. Watery body, not much carbonation. Some bitterness in the finish, mostly slightly cloying sweetness. Not my favourite from this brewery

Copper yellow with small off-white foam head. Aroma is quite hoppy. Taste is bitter with some dough, some cookie. Aftertaste is bitter dominated, still some sweet is trying to get true. (Moscow 201304)

500ml bottle bought at TASTE in Olympian City, Tai Kok Tsui. Clear amber brown colour; Half finger head and off-white foam which last for about 1 minute; Minimal sticky lacing with active carbonation; Light aroma of malt, light orange, honey and light floral; Fairly light sweet taste of malt, with dry biscuit, lime and pleasant grass; Light body, slick palate; Taste profile is mainly light ale malt with lemon, biscuit and grass being wrapped up in a pleasantly moderate hop background; Hop bitterness is obvious yet pleasant, which brings out a nice, lingering grassy astringent finish. Very dry after taste, decently bitter to mouth.

Comments: for my 4th and (for now) last try of this brand, this one ends on a pretty good note. Unlike the wacky, out-of-character Celt Iron Age, this one’s hop character is well under control, with aroma, bitterness and astringency all decently presented. Otherwise, other ale-related aroma and taste are flat and unexciting. A decent “Bitter” is this beer is about, nothing more. It’s much more quaffable than Iron Age of course, but for now, “Silures” and “Dark Age” are the best of the four I’ve tried and I will stick with those two instead.

Dec 2012 - Interesting first impression, wasn’t expecting that. A medicinal lemony foretaste leads to a moderate level of bitterness. By no means run of the mill - the flavour is very individual. Interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Bottle. Pours amber brown with off white head. Nose and taste of dried fruit, dried biscuit malt, toffee, bitter hops and caramel bread. Dry slightly bitter finish. Medium body.

Aroma was lackluster. Toasty Malts in this brown ale. Hints of grassy earthyness and a bit of smoke. nice lacing. long finish of hops on the pallate. Worth trying.

Paid $5.00 for a 500ml bottle @ The Beer Store, Nashua. Amber color in an Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Nose is an English caramel malt. Flavor is weak malt notes, bittering hops that I can’t really pint point any type of variety. Body is light with texture being on the watery side. This would be a nice drink on cask at a pub. But the bottle is lacking any real flavor or depth. I guess that’s why I don’t drink many Bitter’s. Could be a good session brew in the right circumstance.

Oooooohhh. That is a surprising drink. It has a very smokey rye cereal flavour at first. This moves into a well balanced medium bodied malt bitterness. Finishes toasted shortbread.

500 ml bottle poured a clear amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of carmel, eartiness and light fruittiness. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of earthiness, light carmel and light woodiness with a smooth lingering earthy finish.
