COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Occasional;
A storm arisen through Native Wales’...16 September 1400: Owain Glyn Dwr led the greatest armed uprising against English rule in Wales, one that would last for over fifteen years and which for a few brief shining moments would produce a united independent Wales ruled by its own prince and parliament. Though eventually suppressed by the English, the reverberations of this revolt are still heard in Wales today. Characterised as a robust mid brown ale full of spicy and biscuit flavours, ’Native Storm’ has a refreshing mouthfeel complemented by a powerful presense of fresh hoppy aromas. The complex range of ingredients coupled with a long dry hop finish result in a delicious and moreish Welsh ale.’

Pours a manuka honey colour with a thin white cap, looks sexy. The aroma is light, bready, malty, biscuity, nutty, with a bit of floral hops, well done and delicious. The flavour is very english malt style if that makes sense to anyone but me. . . .huge on the bready biscuity notes, nutty, with a hint of caramel sweetness, a touch of floral hops show up near the end for a bit of balance. All and all a well crafted beer, it’s nothing mind blowing, but it does what it does and it does it well.

500mL Lickboe bottle. Pours a very nice coppery amber with a large beige head, lots of effervescence. Aroma is pleasant, some toffee, caramel, and biscuit malts, grassy hop character. Somewhat sharp. Flavour is even better, with waves of mild and pleasant malt characters which I mentioned, and some good bittering hops throughout with a piney finish. Body is light, with a smooth mouth-feel, and it goes down really fast. Would make a fantastic session ale. Nothing too crazy but I really don’t think that was the intention, so I believe it serves its purpose well.

Purchased at the Niagara Falls’ LCBO on my trip there. Pours a clean amber colour with a creamy off-white head that stays a while, looking like froth on a good coffee. Beautiful grain malt with hop perfume notes. Smooth mouthfeel with a slight dry finish. The taste is mild, so easy to drink, but with still lots of character. Caramel malts, nutty hints and decent hop bitterness. Probably a great brew to have at a Wales pub, along a great conversation.

I tried this beer on March 23, 2012 after purchasing at the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario. The beer poured a translucent copper colour with a thin white head. The aroma was sweet malt, floral hops, and nuts. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was nutty, wooden, with hints of caramel.

Metallic and quite nutty with some bitter UK hops upfront. Quite nutty finish, lingers...... Medium bitterness, would be a great session ale. I agree with the bottle description that this is a brown ale, not a golden.

Cask at the Rake Welsh Festival, 1st March 2009. Amber colour. Citrus hop aroma. Thin at first but then fills out with decent malt balance and good hopping.

Cask, 4.4%. Mild fruity aroma. Clear amber/brown colour. Creamy white head. The flavour is sweet and spicy, a bit like multivitamins. Isotonic mouthfeel. Low bitterness. Nice.

Cask conditioned handpump Old Contemptibles Birmingham. A copper coloured beer with a whitish head. A good fruity berry hoppy aroma which carries through to what is a fairly bitter tasting beer. Not bad at all.
