Bottle. Pitch black with a small head. Slightly spicy with malts also present. As you would expect there was a powerful alcohol presence. Well crafted and well balanced leaving lots of lacing. An excellent example of this style.

Bottle - pours very deep ruby red, almost black and has a large frothy brown head. Great retention and thick lacing. Aroma is quite sweet and floral with roasted malt, cocoa and coffee. Taste of roasted malt and coffee followed by cocoa butter with chocolate and coffee to finish. Lightly bitter. Medium body and low carbonation, a little warming.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s post GBBF minidig, 16/08/14. Dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan swirl. Nose is roast malt, chocolate, dark malt, hoppy backnotes. Taste comprises cocoa nibs, dark fruit rinds, dark malt, light roast. Medium + body, moderate carbonation, drying close. Decent stuff, hides the ABV well.

Bottle shared @ ChrisO. Very dark brown to black color, average sized beige to slightly brown colored head that leaves fair lacing. Smell and taste malts, lightly roasty, dark chocolate, a bit earthy, pretty bitter. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty nice.

This is a strong son of a bitch. Lovely dark brown, not totally opaque, but still powerful, with a frothy beige head. The aroma is loads of milk chocolate in a saddlery, unfortunately tainted by a heavy stream of used broiler litter. Yes, it does smell like some dirty chickens have been around. The flavour is very boozy, too strong for me, not a single tenth of a percent hidden, with lovely dark chocolates, malts, and that bitterness that plays around with the alcohol during the long-lasting finish. The beer feels medium bodied, with a certain oiliness to it, and pretty hard to go down. Nothing to do with it, but I was surprised a few months ago when my (Welsh) medieval history lecturer was somewhat dismissive about the relevance of ogham sticks as a source of historical record of the Celtic church. I always though ogham sticks would have been the key to an infinity of mysteries…

Bottle from Vino. Pours dark. Decent head at first. Burnt sugar and whiskey barrel aroma, and very nice too. Medium texture. Big coffee taste. Liquorice. Dark malt roast; slightly harsh. Booze. Not smooth and yet good. Mixed feelings about this one.

Bottle from the St Albans: Beer Shop. Poured black, with a dense tan head. Strong aroma of liquorice, rich molasses and a slightly smokey note. Thick, silky mouth feel. Full, complex flavours of roasted malt, bitter hop and dark chocolate. Finish was grassy, with some rich fruit, treacle and espresso. Excellent stuff!
