COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pilsner malt and German Munich and Caramunich malts are the backbone of this beer. The rich toasted and bready flavors imparted by the Munich malts are balanced with a sharp but balanced bitterness imparted by the imported German hops. The result is a German Alt-style beer that is both malty and easy drinking. The Virginia Ale is 5% ABV and has approximately 40 IBUs.

Draft at the brewery. Pours pale brown with a slight off-white head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malts. Taste is a smooth-drinking, malty, lager-esque beer. Solid example of the alt-bier style. Good to give your friends looking for a smooth transition into new styles.

Overripe orange with persimmon and okra accents, subtle and not overly tart. Clear copper, medium yellow head. Unexpectedly hoppy grass and hay flavor, lots of noble hops, finishes very grainy, unmalted barley of varying roast levels. Soil and even coffee detectable. Upside down North German pilsner? Schizoid maerzen? What is this? Very unusual, but rather enjoyable.

Tap @ Burger Bach. Copper with didn’t tan head and lacing. Smells like sour dough bread with a light metallic smell and a hint at citrus. Tastes lightly sweet but then lightly hoppy. A little grainy and slightly disjointed.

large bubbled amber, head gone pretty quickly. Jammy sugar nose, light cream, bit of corn. Very stale paper flavor, light grain becoming chocolate and rye in the finish. More grain with warmth. Thin and sticky.

The beer is clear and light golden with minimal head. The aroma brings light citrus, biscuits, malt. Smells ok. Flavor is mediocre. Light bodied and pretty bland. Eh... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

651mL pours a clear, deeper amber to red. Weaker head formation. Nose is sweet cherry juice box, musty, moldy. Taste is dirty, soil heavy, tea tannic. Weak palate.

Bottle. Appearance: clear copper with off white head. Aroma: bread, dough, cereal, grass, one the brighter side of "earthy". Taste: malty cereal, breadiness, toast, some floral hop notes. Mouthfeel: fairly thin with low to medium carbonation. Overall: it’s okay. Not my style but solid for the style; very easy drinking but nothing that stands out.

Draft at the brewery. It’s the right color for an alt, but it displays no body. This is a middle of the road malty beer, but tastes like a quality kit. An odd almost sour finish doesn’t help. (#4922, 1/19/2013)

Growler This was purchased for a business retreat from the brewery in Ashland. The altbier poured a clear attractive amber with a slight off-white head. The aroma was of sweet roasted malts. It is a smooth-drinking, malty beer. This is just not my style, just too sweet. .

Served on draft at the brewery. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized white head. Average head retention. Aroma of toffee, earthy notes and a faint hoppy finish. The taste is toffee, bitter herbal and faintly earthy hops. Medium bodied with a lingering bitterness.
