[6308-20140503] Bottle. Sweet malty fruit and grainy hops aroma. Clear, red brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. More caramel sweet roast and leafy hops in the flavour. Medium body is a little bitter. Good. (7/3/8/4/15) 3.7

25/X/14 - 65cl bottle @ The Autumn Gathering formerly known as RBBAG Mons (Gent) - BB: n/a (2014-1258) Thanks to JefVerstraete for sharing the bottle!

Clear red beer, small creamy yellow head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: caramel, sweet malts, raisins, bit fruity. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet malty start, caramel, pretty bitter, bit nutty, some citrus, bit resinous, dried fruits. Aftertaste: bitter, malty, pretty hoppy, fruity, sugary, sweet notes, more a barley wine than anything else Id say.

Bottle @ Belgian Autumn Gathering 2014. Thanks Kump! Brown / red colour, creamy foam. Medium carbonation. Complex malty aroma with notes of banana, peach, brown sugar, bitter citrussy hops. Sweet with bitter finish. Good!

Clear red brown, fox brown colour, white head. Sweet aroma, malts, rye and hops. Sweet caramel flavour, malts, bitter hops, marmelade. Full body. Finish caramel and hops, lingering sweet malts. Quite like a hoppy barley wine.

Thank you JefVerstraete! Tasting glass from 750 ml. bottle consumed @ The Tasting formerly known as Mons RBBAG I (2014). Hazy red / brown / amber, little head. Nose is caramel, tad herbal bitter, sticky sweet with bitter peel. Taste is bitter peel with thick syrupy malt base, herbal hops, chewy malts & sugar, bitter finish. Substantially thick. Tastes like a hoppy barley wine more than anything else, quite enjoyable even though Im not big on fresh hoppy barley wines.

Apparently there were two batches of this produced, the first at the Central City Brewery in Surrey B.C. and the second at the Flying Monkeys brewery in Barrie Ontario. This is a 750ml bottle from the latter. Pours a coppery red, with an off-white head that is leaning towards the red spectrum. Aroma is mainly fruity hops. Tastes of fruity hops, caramel malts, with some burned sugar sweetness, and hints of both bananas and red berries. Found this to be both delicious and quaffable, but beware of the high ABV.

750 mL bottle from LCBO served cool in a tulip glass shared with a buddy. Second bottle...the first was extremely bitter. Deep ruby copper with a large reddish-tan head. Rich, sweet, fruity malts, dank, resinous hopping, grapefruit peel, brown sugar, deep treacle, so richly malty, strawberry jam, very nice. Medium-full body with gentle, elegant effervescence. Strawberry jam, brown sugar, rich maltiness with more balanced goings than the first bottle, quite resinous and dank, more balanced, a very big beer; dry (surprisingly) with big bitterness and a long, very fruity and resinous finish. Im glad I grabbed a second bottle!

2013-06-22. Crisp dark red amber body with a nice beige head and lace. Aroma is pleasant, leafy hops over pleasantly sweet malt base. Flavour is similar, leafy green hops, light bitter over layer and finish but the middle is sweet malt. 7++ Average to medium bodied palate, modest carbonation. Relatively simple but quite enjoyable. Central City Version at Session Festival 2013

2014-05-03. Crisp dark red-brown body with a nice foamy beige head. 3++ Aroma of green leafy hops, light dusty malt accents. Flavour is fairly bitter, nice malty core, lingering resiny green hops. Average plus bodied palate, pleasant carbonation suits it. Not super complex but pretty enjoyable. 7/4/7/3/15 FM Version Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto

750 mL bottle. Looks the part. It pretty much has the prototypical caramel sweet\hoppy aroma of an ASA. And in all honesty, this is fairly prototypical. Which isnt a bad thing. It is, perhaps, less sweet up front, and more bitter in the finish, than most. Also not bad things. just a well constructed, well executed beer.,

Hits the style spot on. I had several of these from the LCBO despite the not so friendly price point. A great collaboration from two decent breweries. No flaws I could find. I have really enjoyed flying monkey products, they take risks and do produce some duds but they hit this one on the nose. If you like ASAs pick it up if you ever get the chance. Hopefully it did well enough to rise up again!
