3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dresden (519) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - JUN 20, 2012
Bottled as Central City Imperial IPA (at least I think it’s the same beer). Amber pour with foamy white head. Piney and citrus hops with a really caramel malt body. Certainly not as well balanced as their regular IPA, but nice.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MrFecesious (325) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 5, 2012
On tap. Golden amber with an ice-white cap. Aroma on the weaker side, but evident of pine and caramel. Taste is upfront piney hops with smooth toffee/butterscotch. Red grapefruit sweetness and tanginess. Looooong hop finish. Well balanced.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 manuchampions (1217) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 15, 2011
On tap at Alibi. Pours a deep golden with ample off white head. Aroma is certainly hoppy but with a tiny undercurrent of malt. Taste is full on funky West coast hops, citrus, some grapefruit. Finish is decidedly sharp but the alcohol is well hidden. Very good.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 riversideAK (5413) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JUL 6, 2011
Nose is balanced yet hoppy. Pine, citrus, and floral hops on top of toffee and caramel malts. Some spicy hop notes and a touch of alcohol as well. Pours amber with a decent creamy head, lightly hazy as well. Flavors of pine and floral hops, citrus underneath, spicy peppery hops in there as well as flavors of caramel and toffee without much lingering sweetness. Dry spicy finish. Drinks well.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Matts_Property (831) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 22, 2011
On tap at the Alibi Room. Pours cloudy amber orange, not much head. Aroma of citrus hops and pine. Flavour is predominantly hoppy with little malt background, small hint of grapefruit. Very bitter finish.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - MAR 29, 2011
Draught at the brewpub, 9.5% ABV, as Imperial IPA Red amber color; small creamy head. Very nice hoppy, fruity aroma; light bergamot and cedar. Good body strength; strong toffee and caramel flavor, mostly dry (luckily, there is not much residual sweetness); strong hopping, but well blended in this brew; resins, pine needles, a bit of fruitiness, and a rustic, sweaty touch too. Excellent hop brew. Balance and power.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DuffMan (5196) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 26, 2010
GCBF 2010, on cask. Burnt orange, hazy. Huge juniper aroma. Enormously hoppy, stemmy, leafy, conifer aromas with earthy/woody elements. Crazy good stuff!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 thejk (15) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 4, 2010
On tap at the Alibi Room. Poured a nice orange colour. The aroma was very hoppy and had a distinct smell of apples or herbs. The taste was extremely well balanced. This is easily one of my favourite beers and hope it becomes a little bit more widely available
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mcberko (4056) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 30, 2010
UPDATED: APR 17, 2013 650mL bottle as Central City Imperial IPA, at 9.5% ABV, pours a hazy golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of loads of grapefruit, tropical fruits (mangos especially), boatloads of citrus hops and generous caramel malt to back. Flavour is remarkably well-balanced, with no shortage of palate-barraging citrus hops, mangos, pineapples, and a big caramel malt backbone. Exceedingly well-balanced and still very hoppy - absolutely delightful. This beer has progressed impressively over the years. From memory, the tap version of this used to be quite astringent and unbalanced. Recent tap versions of this are pretty much identical to this bottle I’m rating now. I hope this becomes a more regular brew as it’s phenomenal.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 turboespresso (256) - Port Moody, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 23, 2010
On tap. Clear & copper. Little head or carbonation or lace. Very malt and very hoppy both in aroma and taste. Caramel malty taste and PNW hops evident. Very tasty.
