COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dry hopped with whole leaf hops from the Yakima Valley, combined with Maris Otter English barley, which is floor-malted in age old tradition. A long maturation ensures plenty of flavour, with strong aromatics of grapefruit, tangerine and mango.

Aroma is heavy on the toffee malts, also nice floral hoppy scent. .pours up a mostly clear rich orange with a slight haze..tastes really vegetal and grassy at first, some hints of honey type sweetness but with a citrus backbone delicious fruity yet malty aftertaste tho not grassy like youd expect the aftertaste to be.. really thick syropy boozy mouthfeel..really awesome ipa so complex and unique in its offerings...

Pours clear pale amber with two fingers of off-white head, excellent retention, well-defined heavy lacing. (5/5) Nose is caramel malt, pithy citrus, pine resin. (8/10) Taste is moderate to strong sweet, moderate to strong bitter. (7/10) Medium body, moderate sustained carbonation, strongly bitter finish. (4/5) Just a little too much emphasis on the malt for my taste. Not "malt forward”, as such, but a balanced malt/hop presence - and for a DIPA, that’s too much malt for my preference. And yes, perhaps I’m damning it with faint praise, because overall it’s very well done, and very dangerous - that 9% ABV doesn’t make any sort of appearance at all until well into the second glass - but it could’ve been so much better with just a little tweak of the grain bill. Mind you, that being said, I’m wondering if maybe it’s the Maris Otter that I’m not the biggest fan of… Regardless, this is an excellent DIPA, and hard to beat for the price. And damn, is it pretty. Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, grapefruit, orange zest and pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of caramel, orange zest and light grapefruit with a smooth lingering bitter finish.

Melon and peach dominate the aroma along with subtle toasty malt. The flavor is a bit different, very earthy and herbal with a little citrus/lemon balanced against a fair amount of caramel and toasted malt. ABV is well hidden in the flavors.

As “Red Betty.” Can PROD Mar 11 2014, from a Whole Foods. Nose caramel and pine, a little dankness to the wood, sliver of citrus running through, resin. Ooh, more orange peel with time, but mostly it’s caramel and pine. Classic medium body is very spicy, as if rye, with lots of natural grapefruit juice and some lemon and orange. Semi-dry, medium bitterness, clean if a little thin, but the resin is laid on thick. Some good quenching potential here, and really no sign of alcohol.

Bomber from Whole Foods. Pours a clear amber color with a medium white head. A big bouquet of floral and citrus hops, malty caramel. Big sweet toffee malt backbone, citrus, bitterness, lemons, some orange peel. Damn nice IIPA. Super sweet but bitterness as well.

Nice nose. Lots of sweet malt. Floral tropical hops. Doesn’t seem like 90 ibu’s. Balanced, sweet, a bit syrupy. Meh

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear, dark amber (SRM14) body....nose is pine, resin, citrus hints from the hops, light cereal malts, hints of toffee/caramel, balance to the hops, no esters......taste is slightly sweet cereal, with light toffee notes, from the malts, pine, resin, tropical fruit notes including mango, hints of licorice, all from the hops, leading to a lingering slightly numbing (reminiscent of Szechuan peppers) strong bitter finish, balance to the hops, no esters....mouth feel, heavy of medium body, sticky, alcohol heat present, light acid finish. This beer is not quite as "clean" as the very best in the style, but it is without a doubt a good I/DIPA. The aromas and flavor are intense, with the hops in ascendancy. The hop flavors are a bit muddled, for my palate, hence the "clean" remark, and I would wonder about a change in the hops used. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7
