Pours a near-black brown with thin creamy-tan head with decent retention and some lace. Aroma is sweet, notes of licorice. Taste is... disappointing. Watery bready malt with some chocolate - more like a porter - and surprisingly present hops (that bit no altogether bad, but puzzling). Slightly sour, notes of dark fruit. Thin body, medium carbonation. If this had been marketed as a porter, I think I wouldn’t have been so disappointed & confused.

On tap at the brewpub in Surrey. A bit of whitish head. Not much nose available on this sleeve. Not quite black. Very slightly translucent. Very dry, very heavily roasted and smoky in flavour. A very decent dry stout.

Can - Roasted malts. Jet black thin white head. Roasted malts with a touch of bittersweet chocolate. A basic but decent stout, very sessionable if not interesting.

A nice sessionable Stout not too unlike a Porter. I bet served on Nitro would cream this up nicely. Good overall body/mouth feel, Nice lively carbonation out of the can, cascading pour, looks attractive. Chocolates and caramels with a burnt cappuccino head. Thinner body than expected. I’ll be back!

Drinking now cuz it was in sale and we are tired from hiking out from Moul Falls in Wells Gray on a cloudless moonless night, feet soaked from standing in the middle of a creek with snowshoes on. Dark brown and a small bubbly head was all that the can would allow. Oatmeal, biscuit, some sweetness, cherry, light roast. Taste is so so. Light to faint bitterness. Weak roast, oatmeal, light choco. Dry. It’s ok and boring yet totally safe.

355ml can. Looks like a classic stout. Smells like a tinny version of same. Canned aroma has some cooked barley, strong coffee and chocolate. Medium bitter taste. Milky-creamy, leaning towards watery at the finish. Okay, but doesn’t begin to live up to Red Racer’s usual high standards.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20

Nitro ruins another beer. On nitro tap at St. Augustine’s. Looks great, with dark brown and creaminess. And the creaminess in the mouthfeel, but the taste is sacrificed at the alter of looks and it is more milky, with the roast faded in the distance.
