3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours hazy dark copper with a beige/tan head. Aroma of alcohol and dark fruits. Supported by some brown sugar. Med body. No, near full. Flavor is dark fruit, treacle/brown sugar, and darned if that walnut ester description isnít right. Wouldnít have gotten that without the suggestion, but... The dark fruit does tend towards plummy. So whereís the bourbon? Whereís the barrel? The bourbon is taking last place behind the other flavors, and the barrel seems to get lost in the treacle. So itís rather straight forward at first impression, but gets more complicated with time (as it warms). Iíve certainly had tastier BA barley wines, but this one is pretty good, if you just relax initial expectations.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Apperance is muddy brown with thick head. Aroma is very floral, powdered sugar, caramal, and a touch of rubber. Taste is bitter caramel, butterscotch, oak, a touch meatlic, with a hot boozey finish. There is for sure a bit of off flavour in this, not for me.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
My reaction to this was like the kid in Charlie bit me. This is a beer. Almost visceral reaction to it. And itís good. Really nutty. Chocolate, fruits. A lot less caramelly than other barley wines Iíve had. Lots of flavour. Booze is there, but not like 11.5% would suggest.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Murky maroon body, almost blood-tinged vermillion, with a thinnish head. Woodsy, wine aroma with the influence of syrah and cabernet barrel along with the expected bourbon nose. Berry, bourbon flavor suffuses the palate, visited as well by woody and strong red wine components. Juicy, berry and wet wine finish. Quite enjoyable richness and fullness throughout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Appearance is a cloudy reddish brown color with a half-inch of sudsy tan foam and bubbles. Aroma is a potent blend of caramel, toasted oak, cherry, brown sugar and berries. Flavor is mostly caramel malt, toffee, grape, dates and honey with a touch of bourbon and citrus around the edges. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and slightly syrupy with soft carbonation. Overall, the caramelized sugars and dark fruits are front and center while the bourbon barrel characteristics are minimal. Would have liked to have tried the non BA version first.

This is one awesome beer. Tastes of bourbon and has a great finish. I am totally in awe. Thanks to Stogies & Hops in Lynnwood for this recommendation.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Nuts dates fig rotten fruits.. honestly after tasting driftwoods old cellar dwellar 13% barely wine, everything else is just a dank skunky rotten hebrew type over done over proofed pile of rotting stench.. I had high hopes for this beer too cuz I love the name.. but honestly the boozyness and fermentation overpowers any delicous tastes..sorry my review is a little biased on this but I guess im not a barley wine guy becuase honestly most of them taste this horrid.. the rare few are done well..again I will say once you taste old cellar dweller by driftwood brewing nothing will ever hold a candle in the barley wine department. . That beer renewed my faith that a barley wine could taste good..

Bottle. Wow-- polarized opinions on this one! Deep Amber brown, lasting beige head. Toasty caramel, chewy malts, vanilla bourbon and oaky notes, warming finish. Thereís a hint of funk here too, translating into a light acidity at the back of the palate. I actually thought this was delicious!

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
650, capped. Pours an opaque dark black with no head or lace at all. Big hot boozy nose, showing tons of heavy sugars. Plums, dates, figs, prunes, very heavy and sugary. Sticky thick body with no carb. Heavy cooked sugars on the mid palate. Lots of vodka twang. Hot sticky sweet finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I did not enjoy this brew very much. Pours a muddy reddish brown with no head. The aroma is boozy and heavy with bad barrel aromas and tons of dark, dried fruits. Tastes similar with alot of woody notes and prune notes. Light toffee, caramel and hazelnuts. An interesting attempt
