grant (737), Martinez, California, USA Mar 26, 2008 Really muddy brown, coarse but long-lasting head. Aroma is smoky, but much more a wild funkiness. Pretty bretty with hints of acetone, etc. Flavor is quite thin seguing into some vague chocolatey malts, then medicinal characteristics, more slight brettiness, and a slight sourness. Very high carbo levels, quickly receding finish. Weird. Drinkable, but not much of a scotch ale and not all that good. Honestly, I might have liked this more if it were not pitched as a "scotch ale." I don’t know if what’s here is intentional or not. It’s not terrible, just...weird. Brett?
Ale_Drinker (1021), Sunnyvale, California, USA Jun 19, 2008 Decent scotch here. Rich roasted malt flavors/aromas. Smoked flavors came into play but were not overwelming. A nicely balanced brew. willblake (1913), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Apr 26, 2008 20061209 Party at Capt Lawrence. Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is dirty, rotty wood, distant peat smoke. Thin body. Odd flavors, a bit of juniper? ucusty (726), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Apr 21, 2008 North Raleigh Tasting. Thanks to JCB for this! Slightly sour. Not a great beer by an means Dark pour. Big smokey aroma. sour fruit flavor unclemattie (1491), Georgia, USA Apr 19, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours beautiful dark brown color. Big white head. Flavor is sour. Monster energy drink. Hint of smoke flavor is far away from this beer. ChainGangGuy (1392), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Apr 13, 2008 Appearance: Pours an opaque, brown body with a small, off-white head.
Smell: Powerful tartness reminiscent of spoiled fruits. Must I go on?
Taste: No more than a hint of dark maltiness, then the flavor leaps to a tongue-pickling lactic tartness. This is followed by a big hit of Band-Aids. I’d recommend pairing this with a tall glass of cleansing water.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: Patently awful, so much so I’ll be greatly disinclined to try anything from this brewer in the future. A beer that throws your tastebuds under the bus.
