July 29th, 2014 - On the day of our visit, Central Coast Brewing had divided its tap offerings into two separate menus, displayed on two separate monitors. On the left were the low ABV staples and some more experimental sounding brews, while the more aggressive, violent and alcoholic beers were cordoned off onto the right. Of these, The Terrance Hill stands out as being the strongest, happiest brew of the bunch. Freshly sliced pineapple hits the nose hard, bringing with it images of pineapple desserts and pineapple decorated cocktails, though the taste is mellower, sharpened by a high alcohol content near the end. The hop profile is dank, and high on cannabis (Columbus hops?) smells and flavors, stressing these over the tropical sugars that were promised in the nose. I like the difference, where I can alternate between a whiff of Hawaii and a sip of college, although there isn’t too much complexity here to speak of. Balanced and moderate, this is a straight talking Double IPA.

473ml can. Clear golden colour with average to huge, fluffy, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, barely white head. Piney and fruity hoppy aroma, notes of pineapple, some grapefruit, a herbal and spicy touch with liquorice resemblances, caramel malty background. Taste is moderately sweet caramel malty, piney and fruity hoppy with notes of pineapple and grapefruit; minimally biting bitter hoppy finish; Relatively mild bitterness for 99 IBUs, though the bitterness adds up with time. Nice composition, simple, clean but not aseptic, quite refreshing.

Can. Lightly hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and light. Mild fine carbonation. Airy malt base, slightly sweet. Hops are piney pineapple with a little skunk and a fair bit of hop spice. Light floralness and citric peel before a light airy finish. Mellow bitter linger. Very nice. Pretty light and easy drinking.

473 ml can.
Pours golden color with a large white head. Lots of resinous hops on the nose, some nettle, grape fruits and gooseberry bush. Grapefruits, resinous hops and caramel malts on the flavor, pine, faint syrupy notes and gooseberries. Very long lingering bitter finish. Strong carbonation, alcohol is well hidden. Quite refreshing and not too heavy nor sweet. Tasty and aggressive.

473 ml can. 99 IBU. Pours a hazy golden colour with a firm white head. Aroma is quite sweet with very recognizable English liquorice (especially those pink ones), juicy peach and some herbs. Flavour of heavy floral bitterness, peach, caramel, liquorice, chewy grapefruit, pine and strong herbal notes, which get stronger and stronger. Long lingering bitter finish with very juicy peachy notes. Alcohol warms nicely. Feels fresh. Very juicy and the liquorice notes are quite unique here.

Big can @ home. Pour is slightly hazy honey with a big white head and great lacing. Grapefruit, cracker malts, orange marmalade, light grass, biscuit, and lemon zest in the aroma. Taste is zesty, orange peel, light caramel, cracker malt, grapefruits, weed, grassy, and honey sap with a big bitter finish. Sticky mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Damn good DIPA. Would definitely bang again.

Aside from all the syllables you have to run through to get the full name out, this is a pretty damn impressive beer.

Deep golden color out of the can with a fluffy, sticky white head. Big tropical fruit and citrus hop nose. Big chewy bready malts under a ton of candied grapefruit, tropical fruit, and some pine resin. The abv is well hidden. Nice IIPA.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2014 Bomber, bottled July 08 2013. Pours clear amber with a medium puffy white head that leaves good lacing on the tulip. Aroma is citrus, pine resin, cat piss, a bit of herbal spruciness. Flavor is about the same, certainly not as up front citrusy as Simcoe/CItra IPA’s, but an interesting take on the style. LIghtly sweet, medium bitter. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Can from 04/14 - bitterness seems more subdued, with a bit less herbal and a bit more tropical fruit.

Pours a clear light golden color with a white head. Candied citrus nose. Aggressively hopped yielding a citrusy, beefy flavor. Wet mouthfeel with a full body. Extraordinarily bitter finish, but appropriate for the style. Very good IPA.
