When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicago’s Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, Bourbon Barrel Aged La Petite Mort – a Belgian inspired Weissenbock – maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. BBA La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit; and vanilla and bourbon aromas as a result of six months of aging on Heaven Hill Barrels.. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, BBA La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

From draft. Pour dark amber brown with little tan head. Smell tons of Malt and toffee. Dark fruit and caramel taste with lite alcohol burn. I like the fact that this is lighter in the Bourbon barrel taste. A little liter bodied than many other barleywines as well. I have had many better versions of the style but this is still a treat and worked well on this warm summer night as my last beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a bomber. Color is a dark brown, small beige head. Boozy aroma dominates. Flavor is pretty complex, bourbon is very upfront here, dark fruit, molasses. Despite the high ABV, this is pretty smooth. This is one of the really good ones. Flavor improves as it warms, and as it does, I keep tweaking the numbers higher. This bottle was at least six months old, so it goes onto the search list. Xcellent brew!!!

The girlfriend says "la petite mort" is a French phrase for orgasm. If so: good name for a beer. Bottle into tulip. Muddy clay-red. A thin tan head quickly recedes to a ring. The nose: bourbon, maple, lots of molasses, some dark chocolate and a harsh grainy note followed by sweetness. Vanilla, figs, toffee. Bread pudding. The flavor doesn’t have as much bourbon character as the nose would suggest. Rather, it’s very malt-focused -- toasted wheat, rich toffee, burnt sugar. Very wheatwine-like. Moderate bitterness. Nice and oaky. Medium body, sugary, semi-viscous. Mild co2. Just a little alcohol burn. Tasty beer.

Bomber - very solid malt bomb offering. Black pour with off white head. Nose of malt, barrel, and vanilla. Taste follows the nose with some roast notes. Not sure what time will do to this one. Fresh seems to be working well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle, this thing sucked. It was cloying sweet barleywine esque. Nothing enjoyable at all. Barf.

Bottle pours a murky brown with no real head or lacing. Aromas of caramel, leather, oak, bourbon, and vanilla with hints of fruit. Flavor is full bodied with a mild cocoa bitterness, slight oily mouth feel, and alcohol in the finish. Tasty.

Bottle @ RBBWG, thanks Benzai! Orange colour, almost no head. Soft carbonation. Sweet malty, notes of bourbon, vanilla and dark sugar. Some fruitiness. Ok but too sweet.
