Bourbon Barrel Aged La Petite Mort is a Belgian inspired Weissenbock brewed as a one off collaboration between The Local Option and Central Waters Brewery in Amherst, Wisconsin. When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicago’s Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, La Petite Mort - a Belgian inspired Weissenbock – maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, Bourbon Barrel Aged La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

Smells like toffee and caramel. Very enticing. Pours a cloudy red-brown color with little head. Very dry taste with some sweetness and a linger tart-bitterness. Flavors of raisins and caramel are quickly dominated by flavors of oak, bourbon, and vanilla. Quite a unique beer. I bet this cellars well.

22. Pours a cloudy dark ebony with a loose and creamy tan head that goes away. Big sweet chocolatey nose. Big apricots and vanilla, lots of oak, sweet dark pitted tree fruits showing. Sticky thick body with soft carb. Roast, darkly toasted caramel, dark pitted tree fruits, vanilla, and apricots on the mid palate. Long dark earthy finish.

Pours a buckwheat honey color. The aromas on this is intensely bourbon. Vanilla, banana bread. Beautiful. Sweet and malty flavors. Smooth. The back end is a little hot on the bourbon but still...age would do great things for this beer. Still a beauty of a drink.

Bomber into teku glass, shared by Brandon. So, its a bourbon barrel Belgian inspired weizenbock, what does that mean. I kind of get it. But, first its overly bourbon alcohol. Just too much bourbon and alcohol with some charred barrel. So, its the traditional off putting over the top stuff. But maybe there is some Belgian dough and light banana. Flavor is fortunately less crap barrel, still some though. Its like a doughy light black banana. But generally too much alcohol, charred yeast, and yuck.

Bomber - hazy purplish red - fairly thick lace - nose is bourbon, vanilla, toasted oak, burnt peanut skin, caramelized sugars, alcohol - low carbonation - flavor is much like the nose - sweet, heavily alcoholic, strong barrel and bourbon - toasted coconut - quite hot - thin bodied for the strength and style - some burnt sugar and dark fruit in the finish - meh.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a small head.
The aroma is candle wax & vanilla. It’s got some nice bourbon and spicy notes but it’s overly sweet and boozy on the nose for sure.

The flavor is plenty vanilla forward, plenty sweet, spicy, woody and boozy

Certainly odd, but not really bad.

Aroma is raspberries, caramel/toffee and a hint of dark fruit/grapes. The flavor is dark fruit/mildly vinous, toffee, malts, raspberries/berries and a slightly dry/warming alcoholic finish.

22 oz bottle from 2012 notes. Pours a hazy brown to dark brown color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor have sweeter caramel, bourbon, vanilla, wood, dark fruits, mild raisins, herbal notes, solid enough, wouldn’t mind having another bottle to check it again.
