COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Central Waters / Local Option La Petite Mort Style: Hybrid Ale Brewed at: Central Waters Brewing Co. Amherst, Wisconsin ABV: 9.05% Suggested Serving Size: .33L weiss glass Serving Temperature: 50oF Web: http://www.localoptionbier.com http://www.centralwaters.com/ La Petite Mort is a Belgian inspired Weissenbock brewed as a one off collaboration between The Local Option and Central Waters Brewery in Amherst, Wisconsin. A bourbon barrel aged version of La Petite Mort will be available in spring 2012. When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicago’s Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, La Petite Mort - a Belgian inspired Weissenbock – maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

Bomber, not sure how old, but this site claims retired. No belgianness. Vanlla, coconut and buttery bourbon. Pretty good stuff.

From the September 2013 3R6P tasting +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a hazy very dark brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was funk, anise, coconut, sweetish malts and a boozy rum presence. The flavor was tangy, malty and toasty with notes of black licorice, coconut, port wine, bourbon and chocolate. Amazingly complex with flavors that come in waves. Very long flowing finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Marvelous.

Light bourbon strong Belgian, licorice and a black beer. Brown coloured body with some mocha head and lacy. Thanks Liam.

Draft to taster at Local Option. Looks good for the style; a semi-transparent orangish brown with foamy light beige head. Smells sweet and malty like a barleywine with a notable caramel presence and a touch of Belgian yeast. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Bottle and served in snifter: Muddy brown with an initial okay tan head that does fade quickly, not much lace nor oily tears. The aroma has moderate bourbon notes of grain alcohol, vanilla bean, oak, leather along with some roast and coffee notes, faint wheat tones as well. The taste is quite frankly very muddled as well, boozy and syrupy sweet but strangely lacks deep malt character. Lots of oak and vanilla along with a cotton candy overtone. Hint of plum and raisin but I still wanted more dark fruit notes. The mouth feel is tannic and warming with a far too thin tone. Very disappointed in this beer, seems all over the place and just too much barrel character.

At local option. Cloudy brownish red syrupy beer. Sugary and malty. Good but maybe a bit much. Serving: tap

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a reddish brown color with a white head. The aroma was spicy chocolate wheat, banana and cocoa. The taste was similar as the aroma but very spicy and tons of chocolate banana. Very well done.

Draft at Dexters. Nice brown burgundy color, unfiltered, thick. Steady thin beige head. Hmm..almost like a Belgo-American Dunkelweizen. Pleasant brown chocolate tones. Lots of clove spice action too. Quite complex and moderately sessionable . A quality, unique beer. Dubbel Weizen. Quite nice.

Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, yeast and vanilla wood and bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded.

Pours a dark brown. Can't see through. Smells of bourbon and vanilla bean. Alcohol bite up front, roasted malts throughout. Sipping beer. Very thick no head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
