COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Central Waters / Local Option La Petite Mort Style: Hybrid Ale Brewed at: Central Waters Brewing Co. Amherst, Wisconsin ABV: 9.05% Suggested Serving Size: .33L weiss glass Serving Temperature: 50oF Web: http://www.localoptionbier.com http://www.centralwaters.com/ La Petite Mort is a Belgian inspired Weissenbock brewed as a one off collaboration between The Local Option and Central Waters Brewery in Amherst, Wisconsin. A bourbon barrel aged version of La Petite Mort will be available in spring 2012. When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicago’s Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, La Petite Mort - a Belgian inspired Weissenbock – maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, yeast and vanilla wood and bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded.

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a reddish brown color with a white head. The aroma was spicy chocolate wheat, banana and cocoa. The taste was similar as the aroma but very spicy and tons of chocolate banana. Very well done.

Draft at Dexters. Nice brown burgundy color, unfiltered, thick. Steady thin beige head. Hmm..almost like a Belgo-American Dunkelweizen. Pleasant brown chocolate tones. Lots of clove spice action too. Quite complex and moderately sessionable . A quality, unique beer. Dubbel Weizen. Quite nice.

Pours a dark brown. Can't see through. Smells of bourbon and vanilla bean. Alcohol bite up front, roasted malts throughout. Sipping beer. Very thick no head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

On tap at Brickhouse BBQ - Pours deep mahogany with a thin white head. Nose is spicy cloves, dark bread, with some banana notes. Taste is a nice chocolate banana with medium spicing and a long, bready finish. A bit of warmth. Smooth and pretty big, fluffy body.

Finishing up the night at Brickhouse I got a couple of new Central Waters releases. I think people who live up in the Chicago area are lucky to be able to get this on tap most of the time. Central Waters didn’t hit it out of the park but this is at least a ground rule double.

Aroma / Appearance - Ruby red with an internal warmth the mix of cherries and chocolate has a gentle feel. The Belgian influences are evident without overwhelming it.

Flavor / Palate - Black cherries, caramel, and malt carry into a mellow finish. The oakiness is just enough to provide a contrast to the other flavors. If I would have had more time I might have enjoyed a full pour.

Small pour on tap at Brickhouse BBQ (Madison, WI). Pours a richer deep brownish hue, darker with firm haziness, richer with a bit of glow. A bit of ruby on the edges, some frothy tannish head dies to a small ring, laces small. Aromas are banana, cocoa, some carmelization. Toffee, toast, and biscuits. Some more banana and cocoa asser itself, good all around. Initial is medium bodied, a richer cocoa feel, roasty and earthy, dry cacao, toasty and a bit biscuity. Brown sugar and richer banana ester come on with some good flavors, gentle coffee and roasty malts. Some good flavors, banana, a touch of cherry. Cocoa, roast, and biscuits. Wheat, touches of toffee. Richer banana ester. Finish is a bit roasty, a touch acrid, dry and roasty. Bits of cocoa, Tootsie Rolls, and banana bread. Pretty nice beer.

On tap at Sugar Maple. Murky mahogany with a thin tan head that sticks. Aroma of sweet malt, brown sugar, fruity yeast and a hint of alcohol. Taste is hot and sweet with tannins, brown sugar, heavy malt, candi sugar and some dark fruits. Sweet throughout with warming on the back end.

Draft. Had it alongside the BA version. It seemed a bit muddled for the style. And a bit weak in all flavor departments.

Draft. Tan head, good head duration, good lacing. Complex malt aroma. Complex flavor, slight roasted malt very light hops. Can’t even tell its 9.0%, excellent beer.
