3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I bought this hoping it was some kind of sessionable Belgian single - I hate when brewers don’t list abv on their bottles - it says "summer seasonal perfect for a hot summer’s day" - was it not unreasonable for me to assume it was a light, low abv beer? - anyway, I’m over that now - mostly because this is a fairly decent (albeit slightly overly spicy) Belgian strong - pour is hazy gold - aroma of orange peel, candi sugar, white pepper, coriander, toasted grain - flavor is medium sweet, lightly estery, moderately phenolic (spicy/peppery) - some notes of apricot and citrus peel - slight earthy, dusty yeast notes - finish is spicy, with lingering tropical notes - a decent strong Belgian ale.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Murky orange color with a small head. Aroma of orange, spice and some hay. Strong straw/hay/grass flavor. Plenty of spice with noticeable coriander. Full bodied and sweet.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at an esbls tasting. Clear yellow gold with a nice white head. Fruity nose with banana and yeast. Belgian influences are notices but are light. Nice but not a lot going on.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. I thought it was fairly light and refreshing, and I am surprised to see it is so high in alcohol. Lightly sweet with yeast and sugar. A little spice on the palate, though I don’t know if there are actually any spices. Good.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Hazy golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of yeast, mild sugar, bready malt, detergent, mild banana and other assorted mild fruits. Taste just doesn’t do it for me. Toasted malt, mild yeast, pale malt, very light fruit. Bland from box to wire, this style is not my thing. It does hide the alcohol well though.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Alchemy. Hazy orange tan, with a big foamy off-white head. A pretty respectable offering, big fruity yeast esters, but surprisingly mellow and drinkable. Nice Styrian(?) hop balance gives it an authentic flavor. Semi lacking in terms of effervescence. Pleasantly clean and well attenuated, not a sticky mess at all. A pretty tasty beer, above average for a stateside example.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This was fine. It has a moderate floral quality and a decent sweetness--not over the top, in my view--but the palate was a bit limp and the finish didn’t have any kind of brightness to it, in any direction. Drinkable, just not great. Bottle.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Draft at Haymarket. Pours a nice enough brilliant yellow-gold with a fluffy white head. The nose is quite grainy and citrusy with some robust banana esters and a hint of apple. On taste, it gets strange. really awkward ester profile and a meaty sort of component as well. Also has some plasticy phenolics that are somewhat disagreeable. Comes across as thin bodied and finishes with more phenol. Not a fan of this.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is lemons, mild grains/sweetness and fruit. The flavor is lemons, malts, fruit and a very tangy/tart finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a nice pretty hazy blonde color with a big fluffy white & well retained head.
The aroma is yeasty and doughy with some mild tropical fruit, some citrus, and some black peppercorn.
The flavor is spicy and bready, far drier than I had expected it to be but with doughy lightly sweet notes. The fruit is more citrus than anything but some banana gets in there all right as well. I really like the peppercorn character and the way it works alongside the spicy alcohol.
It’s not the most exciting Belgian style beer being brewed in the US these days, but I like the control over the sweeter notes, the general dryness, and the way the spiciness is not so overbearing but rather well woven in with the other flavors, I like the fact that it is both strong and refreshing, the alcohol works here without being the focus. At no point does the beer feel over heavy or terribly intrusive, it reminds me much more of a genuine Belgian beer than a lot of oversweet or overspiced beers from the United States.
