From a 12 oz 2012 bottle into a mini Val-Dieu stem glass. Pours brown with swirly brown head. Aroma of brown sugar, rich malts, slight Bourbon. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of rich brown malts, brown sugar, Bourbon, slight molassas, subtle mint. Overall a lovely balance of malts and Bourbon with a touch of age and roughness, but...holding up beautifally with 3 or so years.

355ml bottle enjoyed @ home, thanks to Jdizzle1. Pours cloudy reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is caramel, bourbon, woody, earthy, boozy, light hops, a little floral, vanilla and dark dried fruits. Flavour is medium to heavy bitter and light sweetness. Full bodied, sticky texture, soft carbonation. Finish is a little to boozy, earthy and a tad to harsh bitterness.

12oz bottle. 2015 vintage. Pretty much totally hazy dark red, slight brown color. Little off-white head, leaving good webs of lace. Great dark fruit, nice vanilla, big oak. Slight spiciness, more rich caramel. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, moderate bitter, some alcohol warmth that lasts into the finish. Bigger body. Good kind of full, thicker texture, good chewiness to it, almost like an imperial stout. Mild slick texture in the finish. Great longer bourbon in the aftertaste, works well with the big biscuity cake-like malt. Very enjoyable BA barleywine.

12oz bottle from 2014. Ruddy reddish-brown hue with a low tan foam. Smelled of sweet fruit/malts. Tasted hotter with an alcoholic bourbon hit atop a grainy base. Seemed boozier and more hoppy than previous vintages. Full body and medium- carbonation.

2011 bottle. Dark amber shade. Short head that disappears eventually. Bourbon and golden syrup aroma. Taste has mellowed but doesn’t feel especially aged. Plenty of caramel and brown sugar with fruits lurking. Very solid, but a bit lower than my expectations.

Bottle. Bourbon, caramel chocolate malt, hay, and alcohol aroma. Cloudy brown with moderate head. Sweet bourbon, creamy caramel malt, and moderately bitter herbal hay and alcohol flavor. Has a great bourbon flavor with minimal alcohol harshness. Very nice.

2015 bottle. Sweet coconut and vanilla aroma with a grape sweetness backbone. Huge flavor in this. Smooth up front with marshmallow malt, toasty but fades into sweet wine and then the barrel comes through with a tinge of alcohol and bourbon burn. Excellent.

Bottle shared during Jack’s farewell bottle share at Craft Clerkenwell. Many thanks to Manny for this gem. Pours clear amber-gold with a foamy top. The nose is ripe with booze, toasted wood and ripening orange. Medium to big sweet flavor with lots of bready malts, alcohol, crackers, hay and light caramel. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Hot finish with notes of toffee, pale wood, caramel and golden raisins. The beer is certainly heavy-handed but it has its moments.
