Bottle thanks to Manny G. It pours cloudy deep mahogany brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, sticky, a whole load of dried fruit, fruit cake, candied stuff, spice and generic bourbon character. The taste is rich, oily, spicy, quite hot from the booze, fruit cake, vanilla, oily, toffee, fruit cake and ginger bread with a warming finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Pretty hot if truth be told. Decent... if a bit harsh.

Bottle share at CBC Clerkenwell, thanks to Padraig. Amber orange, still, small foamy brown head. Aroma is orange, caramel, some harsh boozey astringency. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is sweet, sticky sugars, vanilla bourbon, tangy metallic notes and alcohol burn. It’s OK.

Bottle @ The Clerkenwell Share. Thanks to whoever brought this along. Caramel-colored pour with a medium white head. Nose is pretty straight forward. Discernible bourbon character. Vanilla and plenty of caramel, boozy heat. Similar flavor. Caramel. Some toasted wood. Creamy grain. Hot finish. Simple, pleasing.

Black poorly from 12oz bottle at home. Nose is bourbon, carmel, butterscotch, and cocoa. Sweet wine, bourbon, slight fruits and coconut, and just pretty strong. Very good beer

Bottle @ home thanks to Mista. Slightly unclear red to dark red color, small to average sized beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, sweetness, sugar, alcohol, bourbon, wood. Taste malts, quite boozy, strong bourbon but a bit alcoholic instead of smooth soft and sweetish vanilla wood flavors, sugar. A hint of bitter in the finish. Full body, suitable medium carbonation. Nice, but too boozy to be top notch imo.

Malt with some bourbon scents, pours coppery red and clean with a thin tan foam that stays throughout. The taste is very nice with malt, bourbon, vanilla, with a alcohol burn at the end of the bourbon like palette. This is really good beer that purchased about 6 months ago and I will buy it again in next year’s vintage.

12-ounce bottle (2015 vintage marked) purchased at Bread & Honey in Manhattan while on a NYC business trip. Pours into shallow hotel glass a muddy dark amber / brown hue with a half finger of tan foam. AROMA of vanilla, toffee, bourbon, marshmallow, brown sugar, and candied dark fruit. FLAVOR of sticky caramel, smoky vanilla, oaky bourbon, pip tobacco, and some light chocolate. Fairly sweet, but not cloying. The really big ABV is very well concealed here. Not quite as nuanced (or outright bourbon-y as I prefer) as others in the BA Barleywine style, but this is still readily drinkable and enjoyable. (491, 968)
