Probably one of the last times a barleywine will be consumed by me until next fall….Huge beautiful aroma, all coconut and vanilla and dried cherry. Rich red with very light lacing. Notes of coffee, more coconut, intensely sweet caramel, toffee, bananas foster / spicy banana bread, and then a heavy alcohol burn- this might be the bourbon barrels showing off- and slightly harsh pine needle finish. Sticky sweetness remains on my tongue. Just so much going on here, if the finish were smoother I think this would be a 4.5+. Excellent nonetheless.

Aroma is malts, mild fruit/funk and slightly perfumed. The flavor is malts, dark fruit, a hint of vanilla, spices and a tangy/alcoholic finish.

Murky, ruddy brown pour with a 1 finger, beige head that has good retention and initially leaves some oily lacing, that eventually goes away. Aroma is huge on toasty toffee and vanilla right away, then some caramel, hazelnut heavy nutty notes and dark fruits come in, mellow, but fairly strong oaky bourbon as well. Flavor is dark caramel, toffee, nutty notes and cooked tree fruit up front, then sweet bread spicy notes, dark rum, dark fruit, pumpkin bread crust, a little ginger-like spiciness and boozy, but pleasant oaky and vanilla laden bourbon. Heavy body, creamy to chewy feel throughout, with a light, but slightly too sharp carbonation. Damn good overall.

Split a bottle with 2 buds as we were having our own little tasting of 4 beers (or was that 5?) . All of us are thumbs up on it. A definate buy again brew.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Light brown color as it pours, seemingly thin body. The taste of this doesn’t really come together for me, it has all the components of a good barleywine with strong toffee and caramel flavors. The barrel sit in the back of the flavor. It’s there, but fairly subtle. If anything, the oak stands out much more, giving the entire beer a dry taste that leads into an overly harsh, baking soda like finish. Additionally, this beer drinks fairly hot, though it can be forgiven a bit considering the ABV. I bought a 4pack of this and will probably put the rest away to age to see if the rough edges get smoothed out a bit.

Darkish amber pour with just a slight head. Nose is wonderful on this one - full of bourbon, toffee and caramel. Taste is equally nice, though it finishes just a touch hot.

Nice sweety caramely aroma. Lots of grainy bourbon smell. Dark amber in color. Poured with a nice fluffy head. Great tasting beer. Very sweet. Lots of alcohol burn. Really can pull the bourbon barrel age out of it. One thing to note, I’m drinking mine at around 55° temp. My gf has hers refrigerated. Both are great. The colder one is slightly smoother with less alcohol burn, but not as flavorful. Another great solid barrel aged beer from CW.

2014 release poured from a 12oz bottle. Appears an orangish brown (like an unfiltered cider). Little to no head or carbonation. This is a very good thing. Beer is very viscous as it clings to the glass. Smells of Bourbon, with slight hops and caramel. No wood from the barrel coming through... Also a good thing. Taste is magnificent. Sweet at first that turns into a slight burn from the alcohol/hops/Bourbon with a hop dryness on the tongue at the end. The aroma is so strong you can feel it up through your nose. The sweetness tastes like caramel. Kinda of hit on the palate. Overall it’s smooth but the hops is apparent at the end... Yet the key is that it doesn’t distort the next sip. Overall, this is my first barrel aged Barleywine... So I don’t have much to compare it to... But it’s delicious. Id say it resembles a different style if beer other than Barleywine. But I don’t care it’s snagging. It is now easily in my top 10.

12oz bottle pours a cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aromas of bourbon and oak. Surprisingly strong alcohol kick but nice, caramel, vanilla, and aged bourbon flavor. Good barleywine.

Pours an amber with a nice little white head. The taste is predominantly bourbon but you can still taste the barley wine. My second barrel aged barley wine ever but if I can ever get another one, I’ll drink it. Very good.
