3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle (2008 release)
I have sat on this for around a year. That time has not treated it as well as I had hoped. Instead of mellowing out it was still a bit too boozy for my tastes. I am normally a fan of strong bourbon flavors but only when there is something to accompany it. The good news in this case is that it only cost $3.99 to find out it was decent at best.
Aroma / Appearance - A sickly white head and caramel red body meld into a presentable liquid. The vanilla is too strong against the caramel, molasses, and maltiness. The bourbon is a bit too strong here yet still smooth.
Flavor / Palate - Creamy and a bit cloying the mouthfeel sticks to the roof of the mouth. More heavy than I thought at 11% ABV the cherry, molasses, and booze mix not so well. Still palateable this is not the best beer from Central Waters but does represent their ability to crank out solid beers.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2009 bottle with purple label pours red to black with a foamy head (vigorous pour), leaving some residual lace. The aroma is solid wood, vanilla, dried plums, and molasses. The flavor is so dark, caramelized fruits, vanilla, wood, pancakes and syrup, cookies, and some bitterness dancing around the edges. The palate is smooth, real smooth. There is some understated carbonation. Overall, I love this.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown with garnet highlights. Compact beige head, nice retention and lace. Aroma is mostly caramel, with bourbon-vanilla undertones. Flavor leads off fruity, strawberry, dried apricots, the sweetness cut by lightly tannic oak and a licorice bitterness. In the finish, the more caramelized bourbon and vanilla elements emerge, but this isn’t well harmonized with the fruitier elements. Warming, penetrating mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a slightly cloying finish.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz 2009 bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a thin beige head. Tons of sweet oak, candied dark fruits, molasses, vanilla and bourbon. The booze is quite well hidden in this one, flavor is like eating candied apricots soaked in caramel, freakin good stuff.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2009 bottling - Pours a slightly hazy ruby color - somewhat earthy oakiness in the aroma, with notes of vanilla, bourbon, toffee, cherries - the flavor is heavy with coconut and toasted oak - the wood dominates much of the beer, especially in the finish, where is starts to taste like sucking on a barrel - through the middle it tries to overcome this flaw, with sweet toffee, treacle, caramel, chocolate - but these flavors get washed out by the strong oak and peppery alcohol in the finish - less time in the barrel next time and this will be a lot better.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dirty almond color with a medium off-white creamy head which fades thinly and leaves a few streams of lacing. Aroma is grassy hops, toffee, caramel, and light brown sugar. Taste is heavy bourbon, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, light oak, and light grassy hops. Creamy mouthfeel. A solid effort, but a bit too much alcohol up front.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours to a chestnut colored body with a moderate light beige head. The aroma is significantly sweet toffee and caramel. Grassy hops and light oak. Deep kettle caramelization! The flavor has a lot of bitter grassy hops, sweet caramel, light oak, and vanilla. Subtle barreling. The palate is super creamy, lightly peppery from the alcohol, and has a medium-full body. Rich grassy caramel, this one is...
