2008 bottle. Pours lighty clouded amber color with a small light brown head. Aroma of oak, bourbon, vanilla and toffee. Flavor of caramel, bourbon, toasted malt, hops and fermented fruits. Semi sweet finish topped off with a nice warm bourbon taste that lingers.

2008 bottle. Poured deep, mostly translucent reddish-brown with a creamy cap of brown mustardy head. The aroma was mighty fine, and not far from a 10.. sweet, yet deep and powerful bourbon and vanilla from the barrel draped elegantly over warm toffee, candied caramel, and faint marshmallow.. everything I was hoping for. The flavor did not dissapoint.. caramel and toasted barley with lesser dark fruits at the core surrounded by ample bourbon, vanilla, and lighter oak sourness that really popped at the finish.. warm finish that let you know that the booze was there, but it didn’t make certain where it was hiding. Thick and creamy on the palate with building herbal and woody bitterness toward the back.. sweeter finish with a bit of sherry on the finish. Excellent stuff!

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar. Aroma oats, caramel and Bourbon alcohol is most dominate. Rusty caramel body with mustard head. Flavor in good dose of bourbon and wood. Caramel malts adds thickness to the body but wow alcohol punch hits you as this beer disappears from the pint glass. Moderate barley grain and sweet caramel aftertase left on the palate. Heavy head after this one. Thanks Tom.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 Pours a cloudy deep copper with a dense head that dissipated quickly to a ring foam leaving sporadic lacing. The first aroma is the big sweet caramel malt smell with raisins, dates and subtle earthy hops. This is followed by a big bourbon backbone along with some sweet vanilla beans. The taste actually has more bourbon than the smell with a more prominent molasses sweetness. The caramel malts and earthy hops are still there as well, but the bourbon really comes out in the taste with a serious alcohol burn. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and very creamy. The is a very good bourbon barleywine but the heavy bourbon presence means that getting through one of these would make for a good night. Edit: With a few months on it, this beer rounds into one of the best BA barleywines I’ve had. Updating rating from 4.0 to 4.3

Thanks for sharing, FirmButtstone and Weep. The body was dark copper with a whin khaki head. The aroma was strongly sweet caramel with some obvious vanilla and oak. Ther was also a nice walnut character. The taste was pears and canilla with some cola. There was a nice hoppy grapefruit finish. A little bit of alcohol burn complements this massive beer. Very well made and the barrel aging was relatively subtle. This is how it’s done!

Thanks Weep for the bottle. Great bourbon nose but not overpowering. I think this is one of the only barrel aged beers that has a nice balance of bourbon, malt and hops.

Thanks to Kmeves and Kingpinipa for hooking me up with bottles of this. Pours a thick brownish toffee color with a fluffy tan head. Smooth bourbon, vanilla, malt aroma that blends everything together very nicely, nothing stands out above anything else. Taste is caramel malt, toffee, vanilla and big hops that just take over your mouth with bitterness. Some lingering bitterness on the palate after, but dies down quickly. Finishes mellow with a hint of bourbon. This was as close as you could get to Angels Share BB . I’d like to age this and see how the hops mellow.

Pours a transparent copper mahogany with a smallish light tan head. Lightly sweet aroma of dark caramel malts, oak and bourbon. Flavor is sweet caramel, vanilla sweetness, bourbon , some fruit and a bit of alcohol. Medium to full bodied, smouth texture. Finishes long and candy sweet.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2009 A- Pours an orangey brown hue with very little head. S- Smell consists of very dark fruits, raisins, figs, plum and a hint of bourbon. T- Taste is excellent. A couple nights ago I had a Kuhnhenn Bourbon Barleywine and was worried this wouldn’t hold a candle to it but it is pretty great. Lighter fruity notes to begin with followed by strong raisin and fig and a sweetness mixed with alcohol warming toward the end. Absolutely delicious. M- Thick with ample carbonation. D- This is an excellent bourbon barleywine. Great to sip on anytime. I will certainly seek this out again in the future.
