UPDATED: SEP 25, 2009 Wow. 2007 bottle. Aroma is incredible. Unbelieveably smooth. Notes of super bourbon , chocolate, vanilla, raison, toffee. Alcohol is quite the compliment to this one. Slighly chewy stický, mouthfeel. Bringing some of this home! Great beer.

Bottle, thanks to Maxxdaddy. Caramel color pour with beige head. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon, sweet caramel malt. Strong flavor, sharp malt, sweet and vanilla flavor. Light wood and lingering bourbon dominated the finish. Good beer.

Bottle; poured an amber color with not much head. Kind of thick aroma. Aroma of dough, caramel, fruit, with some bourbon and alcohol. Flavor was much of the same and a bit hot. Doughy malt flavor, caramel, sweet malt, with some dark fruit and earth. Really nice beer; thanks Jon! Alcohol was well hidden.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2009 12oz bottle. 2009 version. Thick brown toffee color. Thin head, quickly dissipates. The aroma is rather brutal, with thick syrupy bourbon going for the kill. There is a light hop crispness that leads to a rich, malty sweet, caramel-fig aftertaste. Actually a pretty nice example of the style, doesn’t really come off overbearing, even at 11.2%. I really have trouble getting over the aroma, which in my opinion, brings this one down a notch. Either way, a big and bold beer, uniquely well done.

Hazy reddish brown with thin head. Beautiful sugary sweet malt aroma with some bourbon and oak. Deep malt as the core barleywine is still the focus, but the barrel adds definite bourbon sweetness and some light oak/wood. A little dark fruit and burned wood comes through. Very full and absolutely sublime. Solid bitter finish.

12oz bottle thanks to CaptainCougar. Hazy brown with a small beige head. Sweet bourbon, lightly tart wood, plenty of malt, and fruit in the aroma. The flavor is mellow and malty with a nice bourbon and caramel touch. The balance of the beer and the barrel is great, with just a light wood flavor and not much alcohol. Full bodied with medium-light carbonation. Very nice barrel integration, with a good spread of flavors.

Bottle courtesy SamGamgee. Pours a muddy reddish brown color with a smallish off-white head. Huge bourbon aroma with really no other notes. Vanilla and coconut. Flavor is bourbony as well, not much beer to be found here. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. Definitely too heavy on the barrel here but it still tastes good.

Great barleywine- 12oz bottle from trade with kmadison. Pours plum raisin color with an off-white head. Nose is bourbon, alcohol burn, cherry, dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, depth, and raisin. Flavor is dark fruit, figs, raisins, and lots of very smooth bourbon. Rounds out very smoothly as the bourbon does not overpower, it simply compliments. Medium bodied and very enjoyable.

12oz bottle courtesy of markwise. Pours a dark brown with reddish cherry highlights and a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of cherry, ripe dark fruit, whisky, chocolate, some ripe sugar plums and hints of caramel and honey. Favor is sweet and malty with notes of rum soaked raisins, ripe dark fruit, molasses, dark chocolate, aged cherries, some slight hints of fresh fruit and coconut. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing matly boozy finish.
