Big bourbon caramel syrup aroma. Pours a reddish brown with fast fading tan head. Tastes of more bourbon, vanilla wafers, caramel. Nice hop bite in the finish. Warming alcohol feeling as you sip. This is awesome.

Bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, nuts, maybe some chocolate. Heavy alcohol taste. Very thick and oily. Not accustomed to the style but I can see the appeal.

Look: pours a dark Amber. Hazy. Light brown head. Thick lacing. Smell: heavy oak barrel. Slight bourbon. Caramel. Sugar sweet. Light hops. Matt sweetness. Coconut. Taste: nice bourbon. Good oak flavors. Vanilla. Big sweetness. Caramel and butter toffee. Feel: extremely smooth. Medium low carbonation. Slight dry up front but sweet on the back. Overall: great beer. Easy drinker. Bottled. Pours a murky brown chestnut color with little to no head. Aroma is big bourbon aroma, toffee, caramel, vanilla, fig. Really nice. Flavor is a little bit of hops up front (nice, I wasn’t expecting that much from an English-style barleywine), bourbon, vanilla, toffee. Awesome. All the elements come through. The bourbon-barrel aging, the traditional English-style barleywine elements, and even some hops! That makes this a pretty awesome barleywine. Not too heavy on the carbonation (rightly so, any more carbonation would ruin it, imo). Fantastic.

2012 vintage 12 Oz bottle. Dark amber with ruby highlights, off white head that falls to a thick collar. Thick ABV legs and some spotty lacing. Nose is bourbon, oak, caramel, vanilla, and coconut, under the barrel notes are soft dark fruits and prune. Lovely nose especially with the complexity. Taste is up front bourbon and notes from the barrel. Caramel, oak, vanilla and coconut. Under all that is the dark fruits. Juicy prune, strawberry, and brown sugar. Full beer, light carbonation, juicy and jimmy. Like how it is up front barrel and under that a really solid BW.

Bottle split in the hotel room, Tacoma, thanks to Ferris 07/11/14. Dark chestnut brown with a decent beige covering that retains well. Nose is dark toffee fudge, nutty, light spice, dates, cake mix, bourbon rinse, tangy dark fruit peel. Taste comprises sweet licks, bourbon well evident, prunes, dark fruit, toffee fudge. Medium + body, dine carbonation, drying close caked in dark fruit rinds and sweetish licks finsihing with lightly warming alcohol. Solid BW - Bourbon evident but doesn’t take over.

Bottle - Toffee, chocolate and boozy bourbon. Dirty reddish brown and a thin light brown head. Raisin, brown sugar, prune and a long sweet finish. Bourbon is much lighter in the taste than in the nose.

12oz bottle, received via trade with heybeerman - I’ve had the pleasure of consuming this great beer a few times with different vintages. This is the 2012 vintage, and while it might still be a little young it shows off the fantastic barrel aging and just oozes out bourbon with an emphasis on the wood. Vanilla, bourbon, medium-sweet malts dominate the aroma, and while that 1-2-3 combo might seem a little simple, it freakin rocks. The wood really shines though on the palate and if you ever want to show a person what barrel aging can do to a beer, this is a fine example. Lots of woody tannins, vanillin and bourbon and, like the aroma, is fantastic. I can only imagine this beer getting better with a little age, but it’s pretty damn good right now.
