Pour is a very murky amber/brown with a quickly disappearing khaki head. Strong bourbon notes on the nose, lots of vanilla, oak and caramel, syrupy floral hoppiness, and a bit of alcohol and raisin. Wow, a very rich, smooth beer. As expected, lots of oak and vanilla up front from the barrel, sweet caramel, its quite boozy, dark fruits, and a slightly hoppy finish. Full bodied, strong bourbon taste, and dangerously drinkable.

A little vanilla on the end. Taste: sweet up front. Slightly bitter in the finish. Big flavor. Palate: rich and full bodied. Long finish. Soft carbonation. Overall: Really nice. Rich and complex. Great flavor.

Red, murky no head. Nose is bourbon, malts, candy, crazy aroma. Taste is lots of bourbon, malt, caramel. Unbalanced but Superb. Best Barleywine, I have had so far.

Bottle - Toffee, chocolate and boozy bourbon. Dirty reddish brown and a thin light brown head. Raisin, brown sugar, prune and a long sweet finish. Bourbon is much lighter in the taste than in the nose.

12oz bottle, received via trade with heybeerman - I’ve had the pleasure of consuming this great beer a few times with different vintages. This is the 2012 vintage, and while it might still be a little young it shows off the fantastic barrel aging and just oozes out bourbon with an emphasis on the wood. Vanilla, bourbon, medium-sweet malts dominate the aroma, and while that 1-2-3 combo might seem a little simple, it freakin rocks. The wood really shines though on the palate and if you ever want to show a person what barrel aging can do to a beer, this is a fine example. Lots of woody tannins, vanillin and bourbon and, like the aroma, is fantastic. I can only imagine this beer getting better with a little age, but it’s pretty damn good right now.

36cl, Vintage 2014, no mention of ABV, exclusive American brew, thx alot to Secret Santa!, complex brew, alcoholic/woody and slightly spicy/sweet, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, nearly no head, good Winter brew, yet expensive!

"aroma starts as vanilla, caramel malt, with a hint of pepper and hops. well made BW..the hops shine through the bourbon, though the bourbon blends well and is the highlight. slight peppery aspect to the sweet full finish. thanks again, John, this is a real sipping treat."

GABF. Golden Amber hue with off white head. Aroma is caramel, bourbon, honey, oak. Full body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a nice dry character from the oak and ethanol. Overall this was a really nice brew.

Pours a dark, dull amber color with a rich tan head that has a greenish hue. Big rich caramel and oak nose. Sticky and chewy. Some alcohol heat is noted. Rich caramel and oaky flavor. This is a lovely sipper.

Sadly, since bourbon barrels, high-abv stouts and barleywines are my favourite beers across the world, this was the worst of that variety I have ever tasted. In fact, it was the worst non-Lager/Amber I’ve ever put to my lips. I’ll tell you why: The Hops drown it in a bath of cloying Hop He__ll. I do not care for IPAs and hops much though - so take my criticism with a grain of ... barley.
