4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 9, 2013 So, I liken this beer to the great divide ba ruff. But it is in its own category. I’ve had a lot of BBA’d bw’s and this one could be hands down one of the best; Affordable, tasty and full of flavor. If I lived n e where the brewery my sig other would hate me.
Pour is murky amber with lingering head from minor movement. Taste is caramalized figs, dates, and a boozy boozy bourbon so ish that makes the side of the palate curl with dry/tart ness. Smell is bourbon forward Ito classic malty BW Malts. Glass is laced with sugar bubbles from the head. Mmm. Pork chop in a bottle.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 2012. Pours hazy reddish hazel, medium creamy tan head, that dissipates slowly leaving nice residual and decent lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark sugars. Flavor follows, medium sweet, and light plus bitter, lots of dark sugars and bourbon vanilla flavors, a bit of oxidation. Fullish body, creamy mouthfeel.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters, displaying a fairly clear, copper color, with bubbly, off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The aroma & flavor shared notes of maltiness, caramel sweetness, dried fruit, and barrel induced hints of vanilla & coconut. Earthy bitterness and slightly hot, bourbony alcohol lingered together into the finish, in a rather full body. Cellaring would’ve definitely mellowed the alcohol, but anticipation won out.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from West at Ale Alpharetta. Clear brown, with a thin, beige head. Caramel, lots of vanilla, oak, butterscotch, and light piney hops. Very sweet, with a light hop bitterness. Heavy body, creamy, and a little warming. Overall, this is a nice, bourbon forward beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Murky dark amber, brownish dark red with some orange hue. Light head, spotty lace. Fresh candy malt aroma vanilla oak bourbon toast, fruit-mainly cherry like. Same in taste, bourbon hits more on finish yet well from start to finish. Creamy chewy malt full body, some heat and dryness more in finish. Fruit candy. Grassy grapefruit pine bitter. Bourbon barrel thorought. Big sipper. This would age nice. 2015 bottle. Good young probably great aged.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours slightly hazy caramel with a nice fine-bubbled buff head. Fresh wood and bourbon dominate the aroma but let hints of caramel and malt peek through. Flavor has bourbon, oaken, caramel and sweet malt notes, tasty and pleasing. Finish has an alcohol nip, more playful poodle than angry Rottweiler. Texture is fairly fizzy and fairly firm. Reserve one today.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle from bytemesis. 2014 vintage. Aroma consists of whiskey, wood, coconut, vanilla, raisin, molasses, licorice, cough drop--wow, this is right up there with the best of the barrel aged malt-driven beers I’ve ever had. Smells like rum bread. Pours muddy brown with orange tints and a one finger beige head that falls into a ring and skiff of foam fairly quick; laces a little. Taste is nearly as good as the aroma, with all descriptors in place. The only thing pulling it back a little is its harshness; it’s fairly boozy and the licorice/cough drop aspect is dominant in flavor, nearly astringent. Carbonation is average, body is full. Really tasty, but it’s a sipper.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, nuts, maybe some chocolate. Heavy alcohol taste. Very thick and oily. Not accustomed to the style but I can see the appeal.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Pours a murky brown chestnut color with little to no head. Aroma is big bourbon aroma, toffee, caramel, vanilla, fig. Really nice. Flavor is a little bit of hops up front (nice, I wasn’t expecting that much from an English-style barleywine), bourbon, vanilla, toffee. Awesome. All the elements come through. The bourbon-barrel aging, the traditional English-style barleywine elements, and even some hops! That makes this a pretty awesome barleywine. Not too heavy on the carbonation (rightly so, any more carbonation would ruin it, imo). Fantastic.
