3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2013 2009 bottle from TPatuto. Thanks! 12 oz for me. A: Dark brown with a prune tint in the light. Thin ring of head after the pour foams to about a 1/4 inch. Sticky. Very sticky. N: Wow. Deep breather. Bourbon, oak, toffee, caramel, and vanilla. Raisins, molasses, and more bourbon. Lots of black licorice. This is layered and it threatens to suck you in and hold you in its folds. T: Sweet and bracing. Raisins and prunes. Toffee and caramels. There?s a coffee like bitterness that mixes with the hop spiciness. Very, very oaken. Candied pecans. Trucks full of black and licorice. Some oxidation, but it adds to the beer. Both sweet and yet balanced - there?s still quite a bitter element to this.M: Like someone forced you to eat a crayon (and not in a disgusting way.) This is sticky and viscous. O: I thought 3.5 years might have done this a disservice, but it?s still going quite strong. If I lived in WI, I would stock up on this and age it to this range. This is far better than fresh Mother of all Storms.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled at the Rapids Liquor tasting. Aroma is SO fresh with vanilla, leather, brown sugar, and wood. Taste is very fresh as well, with a mild, silky smooth bourbon complementing the rest of the aromatic features showing up as well. This was surprisingly good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to Bacterial. Pours not quite clear amber with small khaki head. To my nose: toffee, vanilla, caramel, prunes, wood, and a hint of something a little vegetal going on. In my mouth: syrupy, thick, sweet up front with a surprisingly bitter, hot finish. This one is boozy. All the pieces are there, but they donít quite integrate as well as I would hope based on the aroma. Full body, average carbonation. This one forces you to sip, thatís for sure. Overall: a nice enough barrel-aged barley wine, available in a convenient 4-pack and remarkably well-priced.

Tap at The Jeffrey. Pours reddish brown with two finger head. Nose is hoppy with plenty of toffee. Tastes of toffee, dark fruits, molasses, some hops, and booze. Pleasant body and again not too sweet and drinkable despite abv.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This beer has a wonderful vanilla bourbon aroma. It also has a clear red amber appearance with a very small light tan head that dissipates rapidly. Taste is vanilla, coconut, bourbon, and hops. Starts sweet vanilla bourbon and finishes with a hoppy bitterness. True American BW style. Palate is smooth with good carbonation. Overall an excellent BW. This bottle is about a year old.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured into snifter from a botte bought at West Lake View Liquors in Chicago a clear red caramel color with a tan head that left quite quickly.
Aroma is boozy sweet thinking of toffee cocoa malts & every so faint hops.
Flavor is classic American barley with lotsa hops & lotsa sweet going on here. English Barley wine is my preference but this is such a great ABW. Dark fruits hidden nicely behind the high booziness of the brew.
Overall quite a delicious BW brew. Balanced but the hops fly high.

12oz Bottle. Pours a copper/red/brown. Aroma is of oak, malt and hops. Flavor is of malt, stale malt, oak, vanilla, alcohol, malt sweetness. All aspects, bitter sweet, malt, hops, alcohol, oak are all in a pretty good balance. Body a a bit then and the mouth feel is a bit like sweet tea. Some alcohol heat. Pretty good beer.

Itís just so mind blowingly good. Bourbon taste is super strong but it works so well with the beer. Itís one of the best bourbon barrel beers I have ever had. Itís freakishly delicious.
