3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, molasses. The appearance deep black, off white head. The flavor is bourbon, sweet, chocolate, molasses, except the bourbon is a bit too strong. The finish is boozy, a bit hot. Medium in body. Enjoyable beverage, but not the best in this august style, or sub-style.

Rated based on notes taken on 18 Mar 2012 -- This I think was my first plunge into bourbon barrel stouts, and I loved it.

Medium to dark cola brown color with half a finger of khaki head. Smells of yeasty chocolate, paint, cocoa, bourbon. Taste is very chocolatey, almost like a brownie, a good amount of bourbon, some vanilla from the barrel, a little cherry. If you ever wanted a bourbon soaked brownie, this is it. Well done, good barel character, sweet and enjoyable. Mouth is a little thin, but I can live with that.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle pours dark brown black with a half finger of head. The nose is fantastic, deep rich boozy chocolate soaked raisin and dark figgy fruit, plum, coffee bean, coconut and vanilla. The palate however is disappointingly thin, has nice bourbon spiced dark fruit, vanilla, raisin, cocoa, but ends a bit watery on the sip. Finish has some nice creamy vanilla coffee and cocoa mixed with light bourbon. Nice barrel treatment but the base beer wasn’t doing it for me.

So good, but I have a feeling it could be a little better with a age. Will have to cellar one and try it again in a year or so.
