4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 poured from a bottle. Nearly black with a loud, foamy head that quickly dissipates. Smells of bourbon and vanilla with a hint of something sweet (chocolate? caramel?) at the end. Bourbon flavor leads but doesn’t overwhelm the sweet malts and caramel flavor. The finish comes in with a nice toasted flavor with yet a bit more bourbon, but less boozy than some other BBSs (which to me is a good thing). Very tasty and drinkable.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very nice caramel, toffee, and oak flavors with a smooth roasty body. A rather straight forward bourbon barrel stout, but good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle in Fort Collins, thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours a black color with tan head. Vanilla, chocolate, oak, bourbon aromas. Bourbon, chocolate, vanilla flavors. Kinda tasty, but a bit lighter bodied for an barrel aged imperial stout.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ home with jcnielsen. Rotbox offering. Pours a deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Lots of coconut, vanilla, sweet bourbon, dark chocolate, caramel aroma. A bit thin. Big coconut, oaky, vanilla woody, dark chocolate, bourbon, toffee flavor. Kind of thin but pretty tasty.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle, thanks to Nuplastikk. 2012 vintage. Very awesome vanilla, brownie, light coffee aroma, big barrel presence. Pours very dark brown in color, with a thin brown head that soon fades to minimal. Leave some ropes and bits of lace initially, but not much later. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Just a very light bite in the finish. Good moderately bigger body, kind of chewy. Maybe not as chewy or thick as it could be. Lighter carbonation. Nice full thickness to it. Satisfying bourbon barrel imperial stout. Solid sipper. Lowered score a bit as I went, though. Just slightly thin, and a sort of noticeable bite.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours dark brown with a little surface foam and no lace. Pretty simple appearance. Smells of bourbon, boozy bourbon, vanilla, some graham and more bourbon. Nice and malty with a good chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol and again graham cracker flavor to it. Medium on heavy with aggressive carbonation and a wet finish. A nice beer, and one I am certainly happy to have. Wish Central Waters was closer to me and distro’d here as their offerings are somewhat off the beaten path IMO.

A: Pours a black ale with excellent clarity - when available. Single finger head of light latte head falls over a couple minutes to leave a medium sheet of the same. Sheeting lacing.
S: First response reminds me of an old friend - Chex. I can’t get past this for a moment, then it’s bourbon, alcohol, vanilla, oak (light). Very nice nose. Wait, pancakes, this is one of the most edible noses I’ve ever experienced.
T: See above - this is complex. Only adversity in this beer so far is the high level of alcohol on the back end. Man, I would bet this beer is fucking sexual at the 18-24 month mark.
M: Medium to thick with lo-med carb. Thin, yet resonant slick on the palate. Man, this beer hits. the. spot.
O: Very well crafted and executed beer. Outstanding! 4/4.5/4.5/4.5/4.5 - 4.47

Central Waters always does great barrel aged beers, this is another good one. Strong bourbon smell and taste. Great stout base. Pick this one up!
