BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 24, 2009 Bottle shared by Crosling, thanks dude. Poured a deep murky brown color with a thin beige head that faded to a ring. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Smooth, sweet entry with some chocolate and caramel malt leads into a roasted maltiness with some undertones of coffee, vanilla, and bourbon that lead into a lightly dry oak finish with some lingering sweetness. Low carbonation, smooth on the palate. This beer was better than I anticipated. Good job. BillKismet (1896), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 22, 2009 Rich brown colored, but little head. Overpowering bourbon aroma, fortunately--I like bourbon. Flavor is an enjoyable blend of brown ale malts with a wallop of bourbon and vanilla. This is a brash, in your face bourbon stout that holds no punches. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Feb 22, 2009 12-oz. Thanks, Mark! Jet black. Dense creamy tan film. Bourbony vanilla nose. Creamy medium body. Chocolatey, roasty, vanilla, and bourbon mid-palate. Chocolate and bourbon finish. Pretty damn good impy. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Feb 22, 2009 12 oz. bottle from SS 07 reviewed from notes. Pours dark brown almost black with a small tan head. The aroma is moderately sweet caramel malt with a touch of roast, molasses, vanilla, prunes, and just enough bourbon to know its there. The flavor has more of the caramel malt, a touch of roast, dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and a splash of alcohol. There is a hint that this was a touch oxidized, but this was still good. Medium/full bodied; smooth drinking; enjoyable. 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2009 Pours a fairly dark dull opaque brown with a small frothy beige head. Familiar Central Waters aroma, strong bourbon and sour-cream, vanilla, woody, light chocolate. Chocolatey bourbon first taste... seriously tastes like a bourbon flavored tootsie-roll. The brewers reserve series is probably one of the most bourbon-forward barrel aged series of beers there are. Strong alcohol burn in the finish. Really different than most imperial stouts, more of a bourbon-barrel aged dark belgian. Light and chocolatey without being super viscous or bitter. It really has a dark fruit quality of a Belgian quad which I wasn’t able to detect under the sweetness of the cherry stout until now. A completely different take on a stout... so unique, not better, but a completely different perspective. So basically this beer is milk chocolate, dark fruits and buttery bourbon-barrel. Smooth medium bodied beer that drinks very light with larger but subtle carbonation. Not particularly viscous or sticky. It is actually quite dry for the style... which really lets the alcohol shine thru... sooooo oaky. ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA Feb 18, 2009 very bourbany....and actually a bit more balanced than the goose island bourban county stout....which I am a huge fan of.....makes sense because it is a bit lower in abv....damn good pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Feb 14, 2009 black pour with a small tan head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, bourbon, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Similar flavors. I know this sounds like your average imperial bourbon aged stout,...and it is. Why the high rating? Well, it does everything really well. The bourbon is on the front the beer but it isn’t boozy, overly roasted, or overly bourbonated. Everything melds together well and I easily got through my 12 oz pour without feeling any different. I’m pretty happy with this one. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Feb 8, 2009 Man! Super-beer Sunday- this offering was up and i ended up having a few of these tastey beers. Poured a dark brownish black colour with a tiny hint of red near the bottom. Aroma was super whiskey soaked with smokey oaky chocolate notes and caramel nose. Taste- all i wanted was more once the glass was empty. Again, coffee, whiskey and some toffee notes. One of the tastiest i’ve had in a while.
