Aroma is vanilla, oak, bourbon, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Similar flavors. I know this sounds like your average imperial bourbon aged stout,...and it is. Why the high rating? Well, it does everything really well. The bourbon is on the front the beer but it isn’t boozy, overly roasted, or overly bourbonated. Everything melds together well and I easily got through my 12 oz pour without feeling any different. I’m pretty happy with this one. phishpond417 (1935), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Super-beer Sunday- this offering was up and i ended up having a few of these tastey beers. Poured a dark brownish black colour with a tiny hint of red near the bottom. Aroma was super whiskey soaked with smokey oaky chocolate notes and caramel nose. Taste- all i wanted was more once the glass was empty. Again, coffee, whiskey and some toffee notes. One of the tastiest i’ve had in a while. ditmier (1059), Boise, Idaho, USA

Pours a dark chocolate brown that settles in close to black in the glass underneath a large tan head that dissipates to a healthy ring and leaves spotty lacing.
Aroma is big and sweet with dark chocolate malts and bourbon complementing it well without dominating too much. The oak presence is there as well.
The bourbon kicks it up a notch in the taste and is more prominent throughout. There is the vanilla and chocolate sweetness up front with some dark fruits in the middle before the bourbon burn comes back in the finish.
The mouthfeel is slick and has decent carbonation. It may be a little thin but that’s nitpicking.
This is a very good bourbon stout and very drinkable as the bourbon is strong but not overpowering. Tasty. noncaloric (609), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Updated: Mar 8, 2009Pours dark brown, opaque except at the edges, ruby glints through the darkness, with a modest tan head, fading to spots of lace and a persistent film of bubbles. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, and bourbon. Flavor begins with roast malts and dark fruit, the the vanilla and caramel from the barrel take over, before a long, lingering finish of tannins and bitter chocolate. Medium bodied, not highly carbonated, but the effervescence that’s tere harmonizes well with the barrel’s astringency. Especially compared to the same brewer’s non-barreled impy, much more a sipper than a drinker, but very good.
