4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with a tiny tan head that leaves immediately. Aroma is vanilla and bourbon. Taste is bitter from the roasted malts that are then mostly covered up by sweet caramel malts and bourbon. Itís not as heavy on the bourbon flavor as others Iíve tried but itís definitely there and more balanced, which I prefer. The main issue I have with this beer is that it is overcarbed for the style and thereís too much of the carbonic bit to it which makes the fuller body seem much more light. This gets better when you let it sit out a bit to warm up and lose some of the carbonation. Overall Iím fairly impressed with this stout and pleasantly surprised that it didnít taste like carbonated bourbon like many others of this style tend to be.

bottle pour, black stout, thin beige head, aromas of coffee, cocoa, and bourbon-- really great stuff here, flavors of all of the above, a smooth well balanced brew. Not overly complex but better than many at twice the price!

Must try if you like this style. Everything that you look for in this style is there. Without any negatives like to much alcohol burn or to much woody oak flavor. Itís good get some.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ Maxi. Pours brown with a small offwhite head. Aroma of malt, light coffee, loads of bourbon, oak, coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate. Flavor of malts, coffee, caramel, heavy bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, coconut. Thin to mdium body, lively carbonation. Somehow over the top on the bourbon, but not to bad for someone like me who likes bourbon. 110414

At my place with Matt, Jacob and Taylor. Pours black with a circle of small lacing. Aroma is beautiful bourbon roasted malt, phenomenal marshmallow malt notes, complex and great. Taste is bourbon booze that works, full bodies malty greatness. some vanilla. Love it, would bank again.

Bottle. Pours opaque, thin khaki head. Minor lacing spots. Nose bourbon and sweet sugar chocolate, dark fruits too. Tastes initially of vanilla, which gives way to sweet roasted malt. However the bourbon, oh man. Itís very bourbon forward. Itís surprisingly thin for the style, very smooth. Just a great beer.

Proof that not every great bourbon barrel aged stout need be hard to find or require excessive hoop jumping. Pours on the thin side for the style, dark, dark brown with khaki highlights. The head is a very light tan color. On the nose there are sweet milk chocolate and modest roasty notes. On the palate there is tremendous balance for a BBA stout with a sweet open into a modestly bitter finish. Supremely drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, thanks to Bacterial. So far Iíve really enjoyed these Brewers Reserve releases. Pours viscous, thick and dark with no head. Aroma is huge on vanilla. Massive vanilla, it overwhelms anything else. Taste: This is basically A&W cream soda -- but, you know, with alcohol. Vanilla, cola, toast, dark cherry. Lingering chocolate with hints of coffee. Full body, soft carbonation, viscous texture. Overall: No Peruvian Morning, but itíll do. Yum.

Lots of bourbon heat, with vanilla finish. Lacing is thin. Smooth but a little thin compared to the heavyweights in this category,

Tap at the Jeffrey. Pours deep brown with nice head. Nose is chocolate and bourbon. Tastes of lovely chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and some fruit. Nothing is cloying but yet itís a rich sweet stout. Pretty great indeed.
