4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from trade. Aroma is a little weak, though good, which is misleading--the flavor is spot-on bourbon and burnt sugar. Extremely well balanced beer. Delish.

Bottle. Pours dark with quickly disappating head that is tan. Aroma and flavor are bourbon and roasted malts, quite thin.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours dark brown with a little surface foam and no lace. Pretty simple appearance. Smells of bourbon, boozy bourbon, vanilla, some graham and more bourbon. Nice and malty with a good chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol and again graham cracker flavor to it. Medium on heavy with aggressive carbonation and a wet finish. A nice beer, and one I am certainly happy to have. Wish Central Waters was closer to me and distro’d here as their offerings are somewhat off the beaten path IMO.
Vintage 2010, Reviewed 20MAY11
A: Pours a black ale with excellent clarity - when available. Single finger head of light latte head falls over a couple minutes to leave a medium sheet of the same. Sheeting lacing.
S: First response reminds me of an old friend - Chex. I can’t get past this for a moment, then it’s bourbon, alcohol, vanilla, oak (light). Very nice nose. Wait, pancakes, this is one of the most edible noses I’ve ever experienced.
T: See above - this is complex. Only adversity in this beer so far is the high level of alcohol on the back end. Man, I would bet this beer is fucking sexual at the 18-24 month mark.
M: Medium to thick with lo-med carb. Thin, yet resonant slick on the palate. Man, this beer hits. the. spot.
O: Very well crafted and executed beer. Outstanding! 4/4.5/4.5/4.5/4.5 - 4.47

Central Waters always does great barrel aged beers, this is another good one. Strong bourbon smell and taste. Great stout base. Pick this one up!

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured hard. Resulted in very dark black body and a one inch brown head with fairly large bubbles that dissipated fast. The body is so dark it doesn’t allow any light through. On the nose is a strong smell of fresh oak, bourbon, and caramel. Very sweet taste. Almost like eating a caramel from a nice candy shop. I like the taste, but like the smell more. Also tastes of vanilla, some bourbon, but not really that much alcohol. I love CW’s barrel aged beers. No one does it better, and this one does not disappoint.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: The pour is a murky chestnut, but the beer appears pitch black through all but the edges through light. The head is non existent, only a very fine light tan ring.
Aroma: The aroma is barrel heavy with a strong oak and bourbon presence, but backing it is a very earthy and roasted coffee with a mild sweet chocolate presence. The more I smell this the more the roasted malts seem. I am really liking the aroma here, the more I get into it the more balanced the barrel notes and the roasted malts become. If the aroma were stronger than this would possibly be a 4.5.
Taste: The intro is mild with hints of earthy and roasted malts. The flavor continues to be rather mild and balanced throughout. The mid-taste shows oak and bourbon that is matched by earthy roasted coffee. There are hints of milk chocolate through the mid-taste with a creamer like flavor. The finish is most prominent of bourbon, though it’s not very bold. The flavor is really front loaded, but even then it’s not strong. That’s not a bad thing though. This is balanced very nicely with a mild sweet leaning feel.
Palate: A bit thin, not chewy like I would like in a beer of this style. Carbonation is very low.
Overall: This is bordering on great, but overall I find this to be a huge tease. The balance is great, but I would have loved more flavor separation, instead it kind of meshes all together. The aroma is great though, lots of roasted coffee meshing nicely with the bourbon.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle into snifter glass.
A: Dark Opqaue Hue, Passes No Light, Off White Head Ring, Mild Lacing
S: Heavy Bourbon, Chocolate
T: Sweet Bourbon, Boozy, Chocolate, Mild Coffee
M: Average Carbonation, Medium to Full Bodied, Semi Boozy
Overall, this beer still has a huge bourbon presence, which is a great selection if you are a bourbon drinker....it just seemed a little too much bourbon ad not enough stout attributes...and this is coming from a stout hater too.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle into snifter. When poured it appears dark brown, in glass appears black. Small mocha head that dissipates to a film. Smells of bourbon, vanilla, bakers chocolate, and molasses. Taste is bourbon up front, vanilla, bit of coffee, bitter chocolate. Palate is a bin thin, almost light. I enjoyed this one.
