The American name for the beer traditionally served at Oktoberfest celebrations in Bavaria. Amber in color, this lager is smooth, malty, and well balanced by German hops.

Poured a reddish amber with a fine light head that faded to a nice lacing. The aroma was sweet and malty with a fruity hue. Taste was complex with maltiness upfront with a decent a carmel and nuttiness. The finish had a ’hay’ flavoring with a light hoppiness. The mouthfeel was decent. Overall, a nice marzen brew.

On tap at Lucille in Madison, WI. and served to a sampler showing a clear, amber hue, a presentable layer of off white head foam that reduced to a persistent ring & film, with ribbons of lacing. The nose was light grain, toasted, with Munich & light lager scent, and just a tad of caramel sweetness. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste mimicked the aroma notes in a more mellowed fashion, and contributed a low, earthy bitter. A clean rendition of the style.

On Draught
Pours a rust color with a small but well retained head and some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is malty with some toasted nuts & some leafiness. It’s not overly sweet smelling, it’s clean, it’s inviting.

the flavor is malty with some toasted nut things happening. It’s got some leafy and herbal hop character. The beer is not overly sweet, it’s clean... it’s a little nutty.

As far as Oktoberfest goes, this is just fine.

12oz bottle pours a hazy copper/orange with a huge khaki head. Light toffee and caramel malt aroma. Light taste caramel and toffee, lightly fruity. Not offensive, pretty bland.

Not bad, decent balance of malts, slightly sweet. My biggest issue is a slight metallic aftertaste.

Bottle poured a clear amber wth a small lingering amber head. Aromas of caramel, bread and light earthiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of caramel, bread and light toasted malt with a smooth lingering caramel finish.

I enjoy a good Oktoberfest beer, even when the brewer spells it incorrectly. This one has a handsome pour, an orange/amber body with a sustained eggshell head. The aroma is sweet and caramelly, but the flavor tones down the sweetness and adds a mild earthy/grassy bitterness to balance it out. Enjoyable.

Pours clear copper with white head. Aroma is light yeast. Flavors are yeast/bread, faintly sweet caramel malt, followed by a peppery spice hops. The finish is a blend of the above. Nicely balanced, leaning towards sweet but not too much. Relatively light on the palate but without being watery. Nice.

Bottled. Pours a rich honey amber color with a nice, off-white and frothy head. Toffee, caramel, and clean straw aroma with a hint of sweet clover honey. Flavor is quite a bit sweeter than I anticipated from the aroma - honeycomb, rich toffee, heavily toasted grain. Finish is rather watery and is an unfortunate send-off. Overall it’s not too bad - not overly malty, inoffensive, a touch sweet at times. Another bottle courtesy of Narnad.
