CaptainCougar (4633), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jan 9, 2005 Shared at the Tosa Tasting courtesy of JPDIPSO: Pours a clear copper golden with thin lightly lacing white head. Dry grainy malty aroma has a touch of earthy noble hops. Some sweetness and lager yeast are noticeable in the dry malty flavor. Smooth and drinkable but a little too grainy and bland. muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 24, 2006 12 oz bottle from the Woodmans on Gammon Road, Madison WI (October 2006) consumed mid-November from a Carlyle pint glass. Dark near-clear amber with a smallish dying off-white head, little to no lacing....nice malty, lightly smoky-peaty-woody aroma, feels like autumn all right.....somewhat dull, dry body, bit of caramelized and pale malt upront but dull dry woodiness kills the finish and the faint cidery touches don’t really help....thin and boring and a bit overcarbonated. JPDIPSO (4221), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jan 4, 2005 Take 2 after the last rate was erased by some glitch. Actually past of the Brewers Reserve Series. Bright amber color with a taller big bubbled ecru head. Aromas of toasted malt and toffee and a touch of diacetyl. Rich full flavored malt oozes out. But alas, a touch of diacetyl again. Sweetness well balanced by noble hops. I enjoy this very much as an amber. Lacks the crispness and cleanness of a classic lager. Still a solid effort. heemer77 (3647), Savannah, Missouri, USA Dec 13, 2005 Medium copper colored body with a trace of a thin white head. The aroma is shortbread cookies with earthy toffee. There is also some a little bit of dried grass. The taste is much drier than I expected. It has some light toffee and bread crust. There is plenty of carbonation with the short lived taste. I have had a lot better from Central Waters. Thanks a lot, civ. badgerben (3070), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2004 Amber color with no head. Very malty and grainy aroma and taste, but not overly done at all. Good, solid, Oktoberfest.
