hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Lightly hazed orange ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Lengthy, creamy retention. The aroma is a churning eddy of malty aromas... brown sugar, caramel, praline and toffee with some type of mystery fruit working its way into the mix. Full-bodied with a chewy mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. The sturdy malt backbone (and there is certainly one provided here) is needed to even attempt to balance-out the acrid and bitter plethora of hops thrown into the boil. Finishes bitter and then dry. A malt head’s IPA! World class, under appreciated brew! Kudos to pepsican for shipping this liquid happiness to me! ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 22, 2009 Bottle. Citrusy floral hop aroma. Can’t really tell the color because I’m drinking it out of a styrofoam cup and because the yellowish, off-white head is pillowy enough that you can’t see through it. Flavor is very well balanced, with a solid sweetness offset by a very solid hop backbone. This brew is grossly underrated. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 24, 2008 Pour is lightly hazed deep reddish amber with a thin but very dense and sticky light brown head...smell is citrus and fruity with some faint floral notes....taste is caramel sweet at first, turning nicely grapefruit and soapy bitter toward the finish....this is much better than the ratings indicate...nice lingering bitter flavor... brewblackhole (1367), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA May 4, 2008 Soft pine aroma, very pleasant, ataste is the same with mild malt backing. I mulled over this for a while, and though its not super intense, its almost a perfect American IPA,no faults , hop emphsized but not intensely so. I’m a BJCP judge, and if a brew like this were submited in a contest, I’d be forced to almost give it a perfect score chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 1, 2008 Updated: Jan 27, 2009Subtle, inscrutable. The balance between the malt, hops, pine, carmel, and zesty citrus flavors is impressive. No slegehammer, but dry. Crisp yet somehow a funky grass note. Medium body and carbonation, accessible ale. A faint sneaky pair fruit note. Fitting name. nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Dec 5, 2008 12oz bottle. Deep cloudy orange brown color. Great malty sweet piny, slightly astringent hop aroma. Thick half inch head. Big malt and hop profile. Piny and resinous hop taste, which works quite well with the moderate ABV. Full of flavor and very drinkable, this is my kind of IPA. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Oct 13, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2009Hazy red amber with visible sediment, a rocky, kakhi-colored head sticks around for the duration and leaves chunks of lace all down the glass. Aroma is piney hops, but a little weak. The hop flavor is full bodied though: coniferous hops at the front, turning towards grapefruit and then a soapily bitter finish. Juicy mouthfeel, creamy when it includes some of the head. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Aug 30, 2009 Bottle and served in GI IPA tulip: Coppery hue with a big fluffy off-white head which left excellent lacing, yep it is bottle conditioned alright, lots of floaties in my pour. The aroma heavy juicy fruit gum, lots of citric notes as well as grassy and herbal vapours, biscuity and caramel malts, and a hint of mineral water. The taste is not nearly as hoppy as the nose let on, much more in balance of acidic fruity hops and sweet malts. Minor peppery hop spice finish. The mouth feel is lively and crisp, good body for style and a tad chewy with the floaties. All in all it is a solid IPA for sure
