3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kmweaver (3046) - Santa Rosa, USA - OCT 6, 2010
12oz bottle, courtesy of MrPickles. Thanks, Andy! Pours a bright golden-orange color with a slight haze to it; mixed-bubbled, creamy, white head with solid retention and web-like lacing; attractive pour. Lots of pungent, juicy citrus notes in the aroma, but this seems a little tight overall, with a focus on grapefruit; light amounts of alcohol, a touch of candy sugar, a light apple note / fruitiness. Medium-full body; relaxed carbonation; well-integrated ethanol with a positive vinous note; minimal warmth, and not really showing any obvious astringency; the light carbonation sits a little heavy on the palate; following the nose, lots of vibrant, pungent citrus and mildly earthy / woody hop character; lightly resiny, juicy; there’s a strong viscosity here, showing honeyed maltiness, sticky sugars, and even a cedar-like sharpness, as well as an alcohol and crystal malty presence that both tend to build as time goes on; solid, but nothing special here; a solid, citrusy, basic double IPA. Long-lasting finish of citrus, earthy hop bitterness, and a lightly toasty maltiness that leaves things slightly dry.

12 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a medium beige head. Aroma is citrusy hops and pungent tropical fruits mainly, with a generous backing of caramel malt. Flavour of citrus hops, grapefruit, some pineapple, a bit of resin, and buttery caramel malt to back. Very little astringency considering this is supposedly 108 IBUs. Low-to-medium sweetness. Excellent.

12 oz. bottle poured to a Czech-pils glass at Lunar Brewing Co., showing a hazed, orange/golden color, a nice layer of persistent, off white/light cream colored head foam, and loosely woven appearance to the clingy lacing. The nose was expressive and perfumey tangerine, with a bit of bright grapefruit and resin to mellow any sweetness. The flavor started with creamy, substantial malt, then was tempered by a very presentable, subtly lingering, hop bitterness. The abv was present but nicely restrained. Bold notes, good balance, and nicely drinkable.

Bottle to oversized snifter (thanks, elkhunter36). Looks good; burnt-orange with nice head. Smells good too; nice and hoppy! Tastes...good. Hoppy, but very balanced. Mouthfeel is (what else?) good. Overall, a VERY good beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Scipio (185) - Vernon Hills, Illinois, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Pours a bright golden yellow with a thinner white head. Aroma is heavy in citrus, with grapefruit, pineapple, and pine. Extremely hoppy taste. Big citrus flavor, very grassy as well. Pine, grapefruit, orange, pineapple. This isn’t extremely complex all around, but what is here is quite delicious. Sticky texture, with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. I am very happy with this beer.
