Even though this beer has been cellared at the brewery you can tell this beer is young and will improve 10 fold in about 2 or 3 years. Appearance is very dark amber with minimal head. Aroma has the caramel and malt up front followed by some dark fruits and a nuttiness. Alcohol is pressing. On the palate you are hit right away with burnt caramel and malts followed by some dark fruits and finish with a noticeable alcohol burn. Mouth feel is very smooth with just enough carbonation and finishing on the dry side. This beer has a lot of complexity and will smooth out so much in years to come. High potential!

On tap at TÝrst in Brooklyn, served in a stem glass. Pours clear reddish-brown with a tall tan head that remains and leaves lots of fine lace. The nose has big brown sugar and herbal notes, with subtle fruit and medium resinous hops, yeast, bread and biscuity malts. The flavour is very well balanced between hoppy and fruity-molasses notes. It begins medium-sweet up front with dark fruit but soon becomes medium-bitter with resin, pine and softer raisins and figs. The finish is long and hoppy, with a moderate bitter resinous character. On the palate it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a nicely complex barley wine that pairs great balance with absolutely huge flavours. 2014-12-05

"lots of fruit and spicy hops in the flavor. some of the same in the aroma with some toffee like scents as well. prickly feel, on the sweet side, but quite good. the barreled version, though, was fantastic."

A great barley wine. Aromas and flavors mimic each other. Bread, caramel, grains, dried fruit, a nice long lasting hoppy finish. This is really delicious.

Bottle. Pour is dark orange/brown with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor of burnt caramel, wood, darker fruits, sweet malt, dried fruit, and booze. Finish is sweet and boozy with a slight hop kick.

> Imperial red ale type of hoppy, minty barleywine

[ Bottle ][ 12oz ][ motorheadtodd ][ Trade ][ Hotel Room Garbage Glass ][ 8.16.14 ]
>> Clear red pour, large rocky tan foam. Nose is cherry, minty, orange potpourri. Taste is chocolate and quite kettle hoppy, imperial red ale type. Very bitter...a piney East Coast DIPA turned barleywine. Nice enough.

Pour is a hazy dark chestnut with a very tight tan head. Nose is heavy caramel malt and pungent crystal malt with a fair bit of cardboard like oxidation. Taste follows suit, heavy dry caramel, very sticky, a bit of crystal malt and a good bit of cardboard oxidation in back with a hint of green apple skin. Full bodied and chewy, prickly feel and well carbonated.

Bottle vintage 2013 on the side recently delivered to my beer store. Pour has a brown color and a thin coating of tan head. Aroma has sweet malt, aged hops, resins, and caramel. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation a bit low. Flavor again has substantial malt, caramel sweetness, aged hops, light bitterness, and a touch of pine. This is good as far as aged barley wine goes but why age it at the brewery for a year before releasing it?

Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade. This was poured into a chalice. The appearance was a nice looking dark brown to black color with half finger-ed off white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some nice light lacing sticking finely to the glass. The smell had a nice blend of sweet and roasty caramels, toffee, chocolates, light breadiness, and coffee beans combining wonderfully. The taste took those flavors and combined them extremely well. On the palate, this one sat about a medium to heavy on the body (of course when I had this, it was only two months old). Yup, sure was a sipper -no doubt about that. Overall, this was an extremely wonderful Barleywine well worth my time in having on a cold Alaskan night.
