RBSG 2007. Copper color with no head. Both the aroma and taste are very lightly bittered caramel. There really was no depth to this at all and it didn’t have much taste period. Disappointing.

This does better as it warms. The barleywine - 2011 batch so aged a year - has a lot of alc in the smell and at the back of the taste. But otherwise it has burnt caramel and figs/dates. A medium to light body, it’s dark in the center to nearly clear on the outside. True to style barleywine that probably is a great candidate for aging. If barleywines are your thing, this is an excellent option at the price point, and something that could compete with Bigfoot. That said, for me there was a tannic onion type of thing going on in the finish that just didn’t sit right. So... quality, but the taste was just a little off.

Bottle shared by BC3. Poured a clear copper color with a moderate frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy malt, complex dark fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet and small alcohol burn finish of moderate to long duration. This is a interesting beer.

Pours an opaque amber with a medium tan head. Aroma is sweet with fig and candied fruits...very fruity...slightly boozy. Flavor follows suit...very notable candied fruit...but is more bitter and hoppy than the aroma suggests...nice oaky, earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is full and silky with a fruity/oaky dry finish that warms.

Date: March 3, 2012 Mode: Bottle Source: TheGuy Description: Semi-opaque muddy brown pour with some head and spotty lacing. Aroma was malty, caramel, toffee and a little bit of alcohol. Taste was a miss for me. Starts out super sweet, moves into a funky alcohol, then the bitterness comes in and finishes really dry. Medium body and some carbonation. Thanks Chuck!

Pours soft peachy amber with a slight haze and one finger of sandy tan head. Nose is rich and dextrinous, very bready and malty with lots of toasted grain and biscuity notes. Sweet with some candied fruit. Full and viscous body with a sharp bitterness and warming alcohol. Rich and malty with a lot of caramelly sweetness and fruity notes. Gets to be a little sharp for my taste.
