3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - NOV 11, 2004
Bottle. Certainly not a West Coast, 3C’s IPA. Nice medium amber color. Nice off-white head with good lacing. Aroma is mainly malt. Flavor is malty for an instant and then a building hop presence. Finish is nicely bitter. Very nicely done in a British IPA style.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BrockLanders (759) - Panama City, Florida, USA - NOV 9, 2004
Orange/amber color, nice lasting head. Herbal, earthy, slightly citric hop aroma. Mildly sweet with a fruity, malty flavor. I wouldn’t say there’s a ton of hop flavor, but what’s there is very good...along with some expected bitterness. I liked this one...thanks John!!
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 badgerben (4116) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - NOV 3, 2004
Dark amber color with a medium head. Very sharp, hops aroma, but not the overwhelming pine aroma of some IPAs. A little grassy. The taste has some malt, but not enough to balance out the hops. Body is incredibly creamy.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Pailhead (3435) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - NOV 2, 2004
Bottle: Aroma is much more malty and fruity than I expect in an IPA. Some citrus and only light hops in the aroma. Very dark, hazy amber with a small off-white head that lasts a minute or so. Very nice lacing. Aroma is not a real good indication of what to expect in the flavor. Only light fruit and caramel up front with a pretty big pine finish and some roastiness. Could use a little more balance with added malts or sweetness. For the most part, the taste is entirely made up of piney hops. Long piney aftertaste.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2007 Hazy Amber Coloring. Small Head. Mild Citrus Aroma. Hops and Roasts Hit you Immediately on the Tongue. Not Very Balanced.
Rerated Winter of ’07. I was Amazed They Had This on Tap, as it Obviously Had Issues...Very Stale/Sour Bitter Beer Notes...Similiar to Leaving a Beer Out in the Sun for an hour or two and Trying Again.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 obisbeer (558) - Barcelona, SPAIN - SEP 14, 2004
Slight cloudy amber w/thin white head. Grassy, grapefruit, and nutty malt aromas. Medium mouthfeel w/bitter carmel/nut finish. Carmel, muts, pine and light fruit flavors. Not enough malt for me as the bitterness is too pronounced.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ElGaucho (1862) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - SEP 6, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2006 3/26/06 Re-rate: Draught at brewpub Fall ’05. Sweet, dark fruity aroma with hops. Amber in color with no visible carbonation. Sheet lace. Off-white head. Bitter, sweet flavor. Very zingy and carbonated and a little cloying. An upgrade from when I had it at the Great Taste. 9/6/04: 2004 GTM. Faint aroma, fruity with some hops. Murky, thick, dark amber. Off-white head. Wasn’t overly impressed with the flavor. Ar 6, Ap 4, Fl 6, Pal 3, Ov 12
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Pigfoot (2267) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 5, 2004
Appearance: bright, rubyish red color, with a full, thick, bubbling head.
Aroma: nicely hoppy,a bunch of fruit in the nose, cherries, berries, melons, apples, more...a wonderful melange
Taste: yummy, bright, very tasty, but a little too sickly sweet at times. delicious, but not devastatingly so. A nice little IPA, but not about to take a swing at Dreadnaught or Rogue I2PA...a tasty little beverage, but rather ordinary...mmm, I enjoyed it, though...
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BBB63 (5023) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - SEP 5, 2004
Bottle: Deep golden hue with frothy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of pineapple, orange zest, floral hops, bready, toasted malts, and clove. The taste starts with citric bitters followed by a dose of pale malts. Some spice on the end. The feel is sharp and crisp, metallic finish. A good made IPA but nothing too special. Quaffable and worth a try.
4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 NeonLX (258) - Wisconsin, USA - AUG 8, 2004
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2004 Ever had one of those beers that is so darned good that it makes trying other beers of the same variety more difficult? Well, this one did it for me--it will be tough to drink any other IPAs and NOT compare them to this one as a standard. From a bottle, the beer pours a cloudy, deep amber. Lotsa little yeasties swirling around in the glass.Fragrant, hoppy nose. Large initial tan head that settles slowly. Very full-tasting beer with the malt and hops both coming on very strong right away. The hops are predominant, but there’s a lot of underlying maltiness too. Probably the fullest-bodied IPA I’ve ever tried. Exquisitely smooth. It tastes a whole lot like the spring 2004 version of Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot Ale. It’s gonna be tough to top this...
