COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A robust, yet suprisingly refreshing porter, Mud Puppy is a favorite of dark beer lovers. Characterized by a thick, rocky head and luscious chocolate-like nose, the malty profile is balanced by liberal hopping for its style.

This is a solid porter, definitely a standby whenever I am visiting WI. Pours a pleasing brown to black with a medium body and mouthfeel. Not as full and roasted as others in this arena, but something of a change of pace during a session. The chocolate malts are up front here, with a taste of fresh baked cookies. Not overly chewy, but with enough body to keep this as a solid option during Spring or Fall, before you need to go to the real warmers.

Bottle as shown thanks to Matt. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is roast, chocolate malt. Thin mouthfeel with bitter roast, chocolate and light sweet finish. Decent.

Ehh. A very bland, typical token porter. Nothing about it stands out to me honestly. A bit of a bite on the back end. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 23, 2014 Pours black with a generous brownish head. Low bitterness, but a lot of chocolate and cocoa taste. Maybe too much. Tastes like cocoa powder.. No ester bouquet that you find in an English Porter. Clean enough, but there are better Porters out there.

12 oz. bottle. Pretty good porter. Aroma is a bit plain, generic roasted barley and dark malt. Flavor is a little more interesting, with more kick in the roastiness, a good malty grainy base, a bit of chocolate malt sweetness, and a good, balanced amount of hops that is noticeable but not overpowering. Palate is just a tiny bit on the harsh side, not overly so, but a little more carbonated than would be ideal. Overall a very decent beer that I may consider again.
