A robust, yet suprisingly refreshing porter, Mud Puppy is a favorite of dark beer lovers. Characterized by a thick, rocky head and luscious chocolate-like nose, the malty profile is balanced by liberal hopping for its style.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2012 Delicious porter. I had this on tap, so I canít comment on packaging, but the pour was dark with a thin tan colored head. Major malts, and a big chocolate nose on this one. Has a bogus name, but a great beer.

On draft at B-Dubs around the corner from the hotel on a work trip to Wisconsin. I love that CW is on tap, but I donít like this beer. The pour is a darker red color, kind of brown, with a thicker khaki head that falls down to a thick film leaving some decent lace. This thing just looks thin. The aroma is boring and basic. There is a hint of roasty malt and a light chocolate. More roast. Plain. The flavor is a little worse. There is a strong roasted malt and a light chocolate, but itís really forced. Itís a sharp chocolate that doesnít go with anything. The mouth feel is watery and light. The carbonation is thin and light and itís just not good on the palate. The aftertaste is lightly metallic and just not good. Damnit Central Waters.

Bottle. Deep brown with white head. Muted nose of dark bread, toasted malt, some hops and faint cacao nibs. Taste is much the same with just a small amount of malt. Thin for a porter.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark brown; nice brown head and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and barley. Taste is roasty, malty, some chocolate notes and even some hops (well balanced). Very good porter, very drinkable and quite enjoyable.
