zebracakes (999), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 20, 2008 Bottle, thanks to CMUBEERMAN.
Pours opaque brown, off white head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, malt, vanilla, chocolate. Flavor is chocolately, malty and bitter, almost like a Tootsie Roll. Mouth feel is on the heavier side. Not the most complex beer in the world, but hey, I’m not looking to discuss rocket science with it. ;)
Jmichael (581), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Sep 8, 2008 pours a clear dark brown with full head mild sweet aroma, dry front with malt finish, sticky aftertaste. Strykzone (1008), Wood River, Illinois, USA Aug 12, 2008 A thick pouring dark brown with a good amount of red. One inch tan creamy head that dissipates very slowly. A pleasant aroma of roasted nut and milk chocolate. Flavor is similar. This is also a well hopped porter giving some nice balance. Notes of strong coffee. Finished thin in flavor and feel. Still, it was a very good porter. kmeves (1009), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours a deep brown with a small tannish head and some lacing. Aroma is sweet chocolatety balck malt, vanilla and dark fruit. The Flavor is initially acidic then a bit sweet choclate. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Finishes long and bitingly bitter. Beerlando (1341), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 7, 2008 Pours an extremely dark chocolate brown color with a thick, spongy, dark khaki head. Intricate ribbons of lacing circle the glass, coating it nearly entirely. The nose is delightfully chocolaty, with backup notes of roasty coffee, lactic cream, earthy hops, and some hints of green peppercorn. Flavors are quite hoppy for a porter, with earthy and even some citrus hops lending further bitterness to the roasty coffee, chocolate, and sweet molasses notes. Finishes with a lingering coffee bite. Medium-plus body, with carbonation on the active side, intensifying the peppery notes. Very easy to drink. Solid porter. Flyer (109), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 As you bring the glass to your lips the roasty, bready notes leap out of the glass at you. Afairly rich tasting porter, with flavors of roastiness, some coffee, tobacco. Bitter up front, sweet in the middle, with a dryness at the end. For an everyday (non-Imperial) porter, this is pretty good. Recommended.
