COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A robust, yet suprisingly refreshing porter, Mud Puppy is a favorite of dark beer lovers. Characterized by a thick, rocky head and luscious chocolate-like nose, the malty profile is balanced by liberal hopping for its style.

Thanks to daknole or hellbilly for this one. Tea colored pour with a fleeting beige head. Smells and tastes of roasted coffee, plums, and sweet malts. Crisp on the palate. Really nice.

On tap...dark brown almost black. While opaque, light can be seen along the edges. Little to no smell. Light coffee with a slight burnt aftertaste. ( to mee this wasn’t bad.) While a solid porter, would like more of a coffee overtone to extend the initial taste.

12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt,, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. A bit thin, but still a nice one.

GABF. Dark hue with tan head. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, burnt sugar. Medium light body and soft carbonation. Taste is dry with and astringent bitter following. Overall this beer was pretty one dimensional.

"starts out looking nice with a nice, robust roast and chocolate aroma. slightly lacking in any aubstantial feel and the flavor is ok, but a one trick pony (malted chocolate) so the finish is a letdown. disclaimer, though-bottled in october 2011, so as much as 7 mo. old."

slight molasses sent with a little bit of alcohol. Taste of the molasses and alcohol a little bit better at first well if slightly heavy nice dark color quickly disappearing head.

Serving: Bottle. Very dark brown pour with a nice light tan head. Earthy nose with bits of coffee and roasted malt. Robust flavor. Flint, earth, coffee and plenty of roasty bitterness. Lingering finish. Nice brew.

Very nice pour and seems to have the aromas I love in a good porter, but the overall taste or feel is a little watered down to me--which seemed odd considering the good aromas I got when first poured into my snifter.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a lightish cola colour near the bottom, all with a thickish, two centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of figs, nuts, earth, caramel, raisins and a hint of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavour with some slightly pungent earthy and floral hops, a good vanilla flavour and quite a bit of the pit fruits noticeable. Aftertaste is smooth yet assertive with some vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt and oak noticeable, but very clean alcohol and earthy notes make this go down relatively easy. Overall, a nice beer for the style with nothing outlandish, but solid, good flavours make this worth finding if you like the style! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Good Beer in New York, New York on 19-July-2014 for US$2,39 sampled at home in Washington on 26-August-2014.

Bottle. Pours mostly clear amber with very little head. Nose is powdered chocolate. Taste is weird. Not a fan.
