COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A robust, yet suprisingly refreshing porter, Mud Puppy is a favorite of dark beer lovers. Characterized by a thick, rocky head and luscious chocolate-like nose, the malty profile is balanced by liberal hopping for its style.

Maybe I got a bad batch? The bottle I got was really tart. I leave it in my mouth and it’s just sour. There’s some nice roast and chocolate in there, but it seems like bad quality control. I tend to like sours, but this one would need some fruity notes or more character to be good as one.

Draft @ City Beer Hall (ALB). Nice tan head. Dark brown color. Awesome roasty flavor! Body might be a touch on the light side, but overall I love this beer!

Dark brown with a tan head, Aroma is light, slight roast, light cocoa. Taste is light. Slight roast up front that rolls through some malty sweetness, slight bitter hop then back into a bakers chocolate sweetness. Slight peanut butter sensation? Creamy body, but a bit light. This is being enhanced by the nitro tap.

Tap pour. Deep brown with white head. Muted nose of dark bread, toasted malt, and faint cacao nibs. Gets more interesting as it warms. Taste is much the same. Rough edges. Just above average; could use refinement.

Coffee and malt nose. Roasted malt flavor. A bit thin with nice carbonation. Not bad though.

Nice dark malts nose, some coffee. Mouthfeel is thin. Flavour is muddled bitterness and cocoa flavour. Not great but not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. The aromas are rather mellow, mostly a rich malty chocolate, but with supporting notes of cola caramel, dark fleshy fruit, and some roasted grains. The body is a muddy, cola brown with a tan head that reduces to a medium ring with a wispy lace. It leaves an above average, messy, layer-like lace. The beer is a medium sweet with a medium - light bitter. The beer has an abundant, soft carbonation to go along with the oily texture. It’s a medium bodied beer with a chocolate covered raisin, light caramel, and roasted grain finish. There’s a touch of citrus in there too. The aftertaste is a light, mellow chocolate bars, coffee grounds, and bread.

This is a solid porter, definitely a standby whenever I am visiting WI. Pours a pleasing brown to black with a medium body and mouthfeel. Not as full and roasted as others in this arena, but something of a change of pace during a session. The chocolate malts are up front here, with a taste of fresh baked cookies. Not overly chewy, but with enough body to keep this as a solid option during Spring or Fall, before you need to go to the real warmers.

Bottle as shown thanks to Matt. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is roast, chocolate malt. Thin mouthfeel with bitter roast, chocolate and light sweet finish. Decent.
