This smooth amber ale with it's mellow nutty flavor, subtle flowery nose, and delightful malty finish should appeal even to the newest of specialty beer drinkers.Named for the Algonquin word for the Wisconsin River, Ouisconsing Red makes even our neighbors to the south and west "want to be a Badger".

I picked up this 12 oz. bottle with some others when my wife and I went on a 6 day road trip to Madison, WI for the Great Taste of the Midwest in í07. The beer pours a slightly cloudy dark red with an off white head and silky lacing. The nose not only hops and malt but also n some off-putting sour notes. The beer taste good. But it could taste a lot better. I can tell it had good hop and malt balance but the sourness from the aroma is there in the flavor as well. I did hang on to it to long but you would think a red ale that is well hopped beer like this one would up more than 5 months (most the time under refrigeration). I had a similar problem with another CW beer. Short shelf life could mean there were (or are) some issue at the brewery. I will try it again next time I find some.

Bottle. Lactic nutty toffee malt and straw aroma. Amber with moderate head. Sweet nutty toffee malt and mildly bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body. Very pleasant.

Weak head, dissipates fast. Not much aroma, maybe some malt. taste is nuttiness followed quickly by pretzel yeast, then gone. Not a hint of malt sweetness/clover/floral. Boring and disappointing. But it is drinkable so thatís a plus.

Pours hazy copper brown, brief white head, nice effervescence. Aroma slightly sweet, biscuit, caramel malt. Taste follows, but with a solid hop backbone (usually its the malt providing structure and balance to a featured hop profile... this is the reverse.) Palate is faintly sweet syrupy. Overall... ad I have become increasingly disenchanted with ambers... this one ainít bad. That hop backbone keeps it from being overly sweet and one dimensional.

Draft. Deep red-copper color with thin off-white head that dissipates quickly; substantial lacing. Light biscuit malt aroma with faint cinnamon notes. Rich toasted biscuit balanced with done bitterness in the mouthcoating finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, shared by me, in my dining room, just now.
Pours a sort of brick red with a small head and some spotty lacing on the glass.

The aroma is malty, it smells like bread dough and wet grain along with some light caramel and leafy hops.

The flavor is mildly sweet with a nice leafy hoppiness, itís got a little caramel & lots of maltiness. Itís nicely balanced with a good bitterness & has some light fruity elements.

Better than expected, but still just sort of one of those red ales the likes of which arenít to my taste.

12oz bottle, poured into a shaker. The aroma has a note of floral initially, and is followed shortly by nutty, and caramel malt aromas that are mostly roasty. Thereís also a light biscuit note in there. Itís a hazy caramel color with an effervescence to it. The white head retains a dense, medium thin ring and a speckled surface with only a light lace on the glass. The taste is light sweet and medium bitter. A fuzzy carbonation accompanies the slick, medium bodied beer. Thereís a dry caramel malt flavor to the beer, with a roastiness, and grass. The grass is strongest during the finish which also has a roasty caramel flavor. The roastiness and malt stick around with the addition of biscuits in the aftertaste as well as a dried citrus peel bittering.

12 oz bottle picked up in a variety sixer. Clear amber pour with a decent white head. Malty, biscuit nose. Not much going on, but no major flaws either. Flavor is pleasant and smooth malt, and a sweet, dry finish. Very pleasant.

Red with foamy white head. Malty aroma. Taste - minerally, caramel and light grassy hops. Not bad. Easy drinking and malty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Aroma is pleasant and color is great for a red ale, but the taste and palate are lacking. The flavor is thin and metallic -- very unrewarding.
