Bottle to oversized snifter (thanks elkhunter36). Looks good; black with nice head and lacing. Smells solid; malt and coffee. Tastes good; a little busy though. Pretty good stuff.

Dark pour not pitch black but dark with a ruby hue thin off white head .... aroma of oak, coffee, vanilla and bourbon .... tastes of coffee, roasted thin caramel/chocolate malts, light bourbon (The bottle version had more bourbon flavor), oaky, vanilla and a spicy bitter bite that comes out more as it warms .... finish is dry and oaky ... mouthfeel is thin ... flavors are well balanced ... great brew sessionable abv hidden well

Bottle. Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and bourbon--very nice. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon. Too sweet. There’s a lingering sweet fake vanilla finish (doesn’t taste like it comes from the oak) that’s off-putting.

Dark black in color, clear with a thin tan head. Big coffee and chocolate aroma. Aged in Barrels there is a light flavor of the bourbon. Nice silky taste this was a super drinking Impy stout with the added barrel aging.

This pours jet black with no head and minimal lacing. Smells of roasted malts with just a wisp of black licorice. The taste is quite good - toasted malt, dark ripe fruit, and a nice warming alcohol. It goes down easy with pleasant carbonation. Enjoying this with a fine cigar. Cheers!

Sweet choose flavor, like the coffee bender. Aroma is rough burnt smoke. Flavor is sweet and malty. Pale color.

2012 bottle poured into a pint glass. **Note** The warmer the beer got, the better i felt it tasted/smelled. Cool at best for this one IMO. A - Black in color with a very light layer of head on top, head reduces to next to nothing within a couple of minutes. No lacing anywhere to mention. S - Sweet chocolate followed by bourbon, vanilla, and a light coffee note. T- Light hop bitterness upfront with a creamy chocolate flavor, bourbon, vanilla, and coffee through the middle of the beer and a finish warmed by alcohol. A bit of a dry finish. M - Medium body and and light carbonation on the bottle i had. I thought it finished a bit dry but is very well balanced given the ABV. O - Very very good beer, awesome flavors and nose coming off this beer with every sip. I think i can summarize this beer as: i’ve had few better and many worse in this style. I’ll buy this annually anytime i can get my hands on it, it’s excellent. Only subjective comment on this brew is that i think there could be a tad more coffee added to better balance the bourbon/vanilla flavors. This is completely subjective based on what flavors i value more prominently in a beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-03-2012 22:37:39

2012 Bottle poured in a snifter. I bought a 4-pack with the intention of aging and will update my rating after a year and another. Black pour with a one-finger beige head. Aroma of coffee and hops. Taste is similar; big coffee flavor. Very nice. Citrus hops follow and even a slight metallic flare. Coffee flavors linger looooooonnnngggg on the palate. Flavorful and tasty. Delicously made. I prefer more malt in my dark beers and will be anxious to try this after the hops have faded a bit over time.

Bottle split with pat and Vinny pours a murky brown body with light head/lacing. Aroma is light chocolate, lactose, sweet chocolate malts. Mouthfeel is watery with notes of light chocolate malts, brown sugar, muted molasses and a hint of coffee.
