On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest (8/9/08): Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a full-lacing tan head. Aroma of rich sweet dark caramel and chocolate with a touch of roasty coffee notes. Body starts lightly effervescent with good sweet dark caramely maltiness and smooth bourbon balance toward a slightly drier finish. Good complexity and drinkability.

12 oz. bottle. Aroma of coffee with cream. I’m not a coffee fan, but this doesn’t smell bad to me. It’s really more roasted coffee bean than coffee itself. Caramel and vanilla scents. Pours a clear, dark brown with a brass-brown tint and a small amount of long-lasting, light tan head. Produces some lacing. The underlying flavor is quite sweet and features caramel and milk chocolate elements. It is overlaid with a coffee dryness. There is also a dark fruit presence, especially cherry. The coffee dominates the first sip or two but thankfully becomes more subdued. Some coffee-dry tang in the aftertaste. Medium body. Smooth in the palate. I was not aware this was an imperial stout when I drank it; I thought it was a mere porter. It’s decent for a coffee-flavored beer.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2010 Bottle, courtesy someone at the Tampa tasting. Dark reddish brown color, hazy white head and some lacing. Big chocolate nose, caramel, bourbon and some coffee roast. Flavor is huge chocolate and roast with caramel and dark cocoa. Smooth, full-bodied, balanced and yummy.

#2400! Bottle. #52 Rating. Stout # 402! Pours a dark brune body with a thin tan head. Fresh roasted dark roast coffee aroma with hints of lush bourbon and light oak, but the coffee consumes the fragrance of this brew. A lush coffee with hints of rum and wood, ash and hints of vanilla. Aroma> Flavor. Oh well one can hope when he sees a coffee stout in a bourbon barrel, when its his favorite style.

This poured a dark brown to black with a lot of coffee to it and not overwhelmed with bourbon which made it good.It was sweet and creamy with a nice malty finish to it .CHEERS!

50th rating of this brew. 12oz recently bonused but the name is gone from my head. Pours brownish red with a tan head. Nose is sweet with some nice coffee notes. Taste is sweet with coffee and a touch of bourbon. decent, albeit strangley hot impy.

Deep dark brown beer. Aroma is lightly roasty with a touch of soft herbal character. There is some light booziness initially. I don’t really get a whole lot of bourbon out of it, just a light spiciness. Herbal coffee flavour up front. Nice flavour with a soft cocoa and a touch of lingering roastiness. It’s pretty solid really.

Bottle from Daknole to celebrate my 2K :)

Deep coffee colored, almost opaque, the color of a light-bodied espresso with a scant thin tan head. Aroma is full-on coffee and mocha cake icing, enhanced by vanilla and light bourbon. The palate is quaffable and dare I say a little thin. Sublime coffee character really comes out when the smash of bourbon comes in at the end. One of the more unique coffee beers I have had, with lots of nuances due to the sweet distinct vanilla and bourbon flavors but I would have preferred more roast to coffee/vanilla ratio.

Dark brown colour. Thick head. Rich coffee nose with dark choclate. Fairly heavy with both vanilla bean and coffee bean. Sweetish in the finish veers this towards vanilla latte territory and that’s not going to work for me. The underlying quality of the ingredients and production is evident but the profile of the beer is simply not to my taste.
