Bottled Jan, 2012
Pours a dark brown with a little cap and ring of latte foam. Coffee, bourbon, vanilla, graham, cocoa, sweet malts - great nose. The coffee is a little more pronounced this time. Flavor has a little heat on it with a hint of metallic tone; alongside are oak, bourbon, alcohol, coffee, dark chocolate and some burnt toast flavors. full, velevety body with moderate carb and a wet finish, long finish. Really a pleasant beer. I think the flavor is a little sharp, but it seems there is difficulty in balancing the bourbon with the coffee for them. The nose is certainly tremedous, the flavor is the primary downfall. 3/4.5/3.5/4.5/4

A: Pours a dark brown, but once in the glass, opaque black. Single finger mocha head falls nearly immediately leaving a thin sheet of the same. No lacing.
S: Vanilla is the first thing I notice. Followed closely by coffee, bourbon (when you smell it, you know it), wood, sweet malt. No distinguishable hops. Some graham, cocoa, beautiful toasty tones. Very complex nose.
T:The coffee wins. Lots of coffee, lots of bourbon, lots of coffee, lots of bourbon. Did I mention the coffee and bourbon? So, otherwise, a little bit of licorice, a little bit of an alcoholic fire, nothing like BCS, but there nonetheless. Hints of raisin as well.
M: Much lighter in body than I had anticipated. Low carbonation. No resonance on the finish for me.
O: I’m almost on the fence with this. It’s good. I’d love to cellar a couple of these. Man, I like it, I don’t love it, but I like it. My ratings are all over for this one. It’s so perplexing - like a hot step-sister. 3/5/4/2/4-3.93

Catching up on old ratings.
Brown/black. Nice aroma and taste...A wonderful blend of my three favorite liquids – bourbon, coffee, and beer. No sickly burn from the bourbon taste. No bitterness from the coffee taste. Strong oak and vanilla. Nice boost aftertaste. Fantastic.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, beige head, over a black (SRM 40) body.....nose is light bourbon, chocolate, coffee, cocoa, vanilla....taste is chocolate, heavier coffee, light bourbon, hints of vanilla, hints of sweet dried fruits.....mouth feel medium, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds light acid tingle. This is a nicely balanced, pleasant tasting but slightly light Imperial Stout. I would prefer a heavier and more complex malt backbone, with appropriate increase in the hops. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

Last year’s batch thrown up against kbs. Pours black with tan head. Smooth vanilla and slight bourbon flavor. Taste is syrupy and almost sour vanilla. Body is there but is a bit to oily. Sourness kind of takes away from the beer.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with small khaki head. Holy damn this smells amazing. Bourbon, chocolate, some coffee, vanilla, oak. Sexy. Coffee comes through more strongly in the taste, blending nicely with bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. Some well-placed oxidation there as well. The finish just lasts and lasts, with an exceptionally nice aftertaste, almost better than the initial taste. Full body, viscous, velvety texture, average carbonation. Overall: impressive.

Pours an impressive black with tan head. This is serious black. No light escapes. Aromas are bourbon oak, vanilla, sweet malt, and just a touch of coffee. Taste is sweet, chocolate and oak up front, giving way to some very nice coffee flavor. This is quality coffee too. Long lasting flavor and full mouthfeel. Just a touch of hops in the finish to balance things out and let you know you’re ready for another sip.
