3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle from corby112 - thanks, Craig! Handsome and creamy pour, nice oily mouthfeel. For some reason I hadn’t put it together that this was barrel-aged, so I was slightly surprised by the vanilla in the nose. It’s slightly too present in the flavor, for me, though I reckon there are plenty of folks who like a little sweet with their bean. Me, I like it Agent Cooper style so I wasn’t fully crazy about this. But a good one even so.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar. Thanks! Opaque brown-black color, thick tan head. Roasty chocolate aroma. The moderate ABV really helps this one to shine in my opinion. Smooth and watery mouthfeel in some respects, but lots of flavor. Mild coffee and vanilla notes. The bourbon isn’t hyper-pronounced, but rather melds in perfectly with the other flavors. Really quite mellow and well done, this is a great Stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. [thanks for sharing, cgarvieuk]
Pours deep brown, almost black. Fine, small, beige film head. Aroma is great. Lots of dry coffee, vanilla, some pepper (in the chili way), roasted malts and cocoa-powder. Highish carbonation, fine dry mouthfeel. Super coffee flavour, sweet, light coconut, oak, pepper and a touch of vanilla. Really nice. Well-balanced cocoa-coffee experience.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06.
Poured a clear dark brown color with a large frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet roasted malty flavor with a heavy coffee bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration.
Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation.
This is a standout beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy fantomas23. Pours a very dark brown color topped by a small, bubbly tan head that leaves sticky lines of lace behind in the glass. The aroma is really nice showing sweet, roasted espresso, mocha, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Another smell provides notes of cake icing and touch of bourbon. This smells like a great dessert. The flavor follows with some mild sweet espresso roast up front followed by chocolate fudge, vanilla, and bourbon sweetness. Not quite as nice as the aroma, but still tasty. Medium bodied, smooth, with balanced carbonation and a long, chocolate finish. This is a nice, tasty bourbon barrel stout.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle… Dark brown (nearly black) ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Swirling, hurricane-like, tight retention. The aroma is a luxurious merger of chocolate, coconut, vanilla and bourbon. Full-bodied and velvety with lax carbonation. The flavor is a decently balanced mingling of vanilla, oak, chocolate and coconut – sways just a touch toward the sweet side. Chocolaty, lightly sweet, bourbony, dry finish. Thanks to juiceisloose for sharing the bottle!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy juiceisloose. A creamy, dark chocolate brown pour is capped with a thin, swirly, dark khaki head. Skinny, jagged lines of lacing mark the glass. The aroma is beautiful, showing roasty-sweet espresso with turbinado, lactose, chocolate cake icing, mocha, and donuts. It smells very dessert-like, and there’s a subtle kiss of vanilla and bourbon that resembles one of those liquor filled chocolates. While the nose is impressive, the flavor is just overly sweet for me. A good amount of the coffee roast drops out, taken over by the saccharine, fudgy cake and chocolate notes. Brown sugar, vanilla, and sweet, malty bourbon just put it over the edge in terms of sweetness. The body borders on syrupy, but shows balanced carbonation and a silky finish. Very good in small doses, but I don’t think I’d enjoy more than half a glass of this.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest (8/9/08): Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a full-lacing tan head. Aroma of rich sweet dark caramel and chocolate with a touch of roasty coffee notes. Body starts lightly effervescent with good sweet dark caramely maltiness and smooth bourbon balance toward a slightly drier finish. Good complexity and drinkability.
