Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of camons. Thanks René! Cloudy brown appearance with a light brown head that dissipates pretty quickly. Roasted, burnt coffee grounds, slightly boozy whiskey, caramel, rich vanilla aroma. A bit boozy, burnt coffee, thick oaky, vanilla, toffee, somewhat acidic flavor with some fruity undertones.

Murky deep walnut color with a small but firm, slow-developing light brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted coffee malt, Flavors is a complex mix of chocolate, espresso, vanilla, oak, brown sugar and spice. Full bodied with a long sweet roasted finish and a smooth palate that’s aided by minimal carbonation. This was an expensive bottle but well worth it.

Bottle @ Timbers, Denver. Pours black with a offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, light oak, vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, expresso, coffee, both dark and milk chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, dark fruit. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very nice BA stout, just lacks a bit of body and complexity to be really great. 100312

Bottle at Jerry’s. Black with decent, creamy, tan head / Light, roast barley and coffee nose / Medium body, thin with fizzy carbonation, and fair finish / Simple, modest flavors of dark roast coffee and bittersweet chocolate, with a hint of bourbon / Needs work.

Had this last year and didn’t enjoy it much. Glad I decided to try it again this year because WOW, this is great. Smells like a lot of dank coffee, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Taste follows suit, delightful coffee taste upfront that is cut by the bourbon notes and vanilla. This beer is PREMO, definitely a standout for me. I think I like this more than the BBBW.

This is a slow sipping and straight-forward bourbon barrel monster. It pours a headless black and tastes and smells like sweetened coffee w/ a healthy dose of bourbon, right down to the alcohol burn. There is a nice chocolate and coconut note but it’s not as pronounced as in Central Water’s regular bourbon barrel stout. Not bad overall and fans of the style will be quite pleased.

Date: March 3, 2012 Mode: Bottle Source: TheGuy Description: Opaque dark brown pour with some head and spotty lacing. Aroma was bourbon, coffee and vanilla. Taste was coffee, woody, hint of vanilla and the bourbon kicks in at the finish. Medium body and some carbonation. Thanks Chuck!

A pretty solid brew. Has the whole coffee, vanilla, bourbon thing going but missing something that I can’t put my finger on.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter Ar: Wonderful smell of espresso, vanilla, and bourbon with underpinings of roasted malt. Ap: Pours a very dark brown to black with a beige one finger head that quickly dissipates into a ring that borders the glass. No visible lacing. T: Vanilla and bourbon upfront, smooth short transition into roasted malt that flows into a espresso finish. P: Light medium body that disappears fairly quickly, especially for a barrel aged stout. An enjoyable level of heat from the alcohol. Perfect carbonation. O: A very enjoyable offering from CW. They have nailed almost everything except the body and a bit more flavor. As with other CW Stouts, including Satin Solstice and Brewers Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout, this stout needs a bit more backbone to push it from the very good to great.

I had this on draft at the Tipsy Cow in Madison, WI. Fantasic beer, one of most complete coffee profiles I have ever tasted in a beer.
