4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was at Festival Foods in east Appleton, in the case. I thought to myself, they’re definitely talking winter solstice, but I’d better pick it up anyway because I can store an Impy and see what it’s like come February when it’s actually more appropriate to drink this style.
5 minutes after I get home I crack one open :)
Rich aroma of coffee, cocoa, a little nuttiness. Flavor is strong, with a lot of different tastes running around. It’s busy but good, and the presence of alcohol taste (bourbon maybe?) reminds me not to drink them all in one sitting.
And so the other 5 go into storage till winter.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This smooth, creamy stout and a crackling fireplace are the perfect answer to a wintry evening in Wisconsin. The rich coffee flavor compliments the "warm, fuzzy feeling" you get from the abundant alcohol. Formerly a winter seasonal, named Satin Solstice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, shared around the table at Revolution Brewpub. Dark brown with amber highlights. Chocolate, ashy roast, thinnish body, bitter finish. We’ve had a lot of great beers tonight, and this didn’t really stand up. Simplistic and thin for an impy stout.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
i’m goin a little against the grain here - i was prepared for a light sissy version of an irs, though all the CW darkees i’ve had so far have been great. i was surprised that the beer looked brown as it poured (but closer to black in the glass) and the feel was a little thin for the style, but just a little. the flavor and aroma were huge, and fitting of an irs. lots going on...licorice, bitter coffee, malted milk chocolate, heavily roasted malts and dark fruit. warming despite the lower abv for the style. not elite like some of their others, but quite good. thanks yet again John. underrated on this site."

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, soy sauce, hints of anise, and some roasted malts. The beer is not too heavy or too extreme, and it is not likely an imperial stout either, seeing as the alcohol is a mere 7.5%. That said, it is a nice bittersweet beer with a pleasant body and excellent balance.
