This smooth, creamy stout and a crackling fireplace are the perfect answer to a wintry evening in Wisconsin. The rich coffee flavor compliments the "warm, fuzzy feeling" you get from the abundant alcohol. Formerly a winter seasonal, named Satin Solstice.

This was at Festival Foods in east Appleton, in the case. I thought to myself, they’re definitely talking winter solstice, but I’d better pick it up anyway because I can store an Impy and see what it’s like come February when it’s actually more appropriate to drink this style. 5 minutes after I get home I crack one open :) Rich aroma of coffee, cocoa, a little nuttiness. Flavor is strong, with a lot of different tastes running around. It’s busy but good, and the presence of alcohol taste (bourbon maybe?) reminds me not to drink them all in one sitting. And so the other 5 go into storage till winter.

Decent aroma. Thick mouth and slight velvet. Rich of cocoa and coffee. A little tarnish and bitter and sits easy. Bottle

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of roasted malt, light cherries and fruit, some oatmeal and a hint of grain and bourbon. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a thinnish quality, especially for the style. Shows a lot of fruit up front with a touch of chocolate and coffee, but more cherry and apple/pear flavours than I’d expect with a milky, lactose finish. Aftertaste shows light hints of tobacco and earth with a raisin and light pit fruit sweetness, but the malts are light and disappointing and only a hint of complexity comes through. Overall, a decent beer at best that doesn’t show much of the good qualities of an imperial stout and only some of the decent qualities of a sweet or foreign stout. Not worth searching for and definitely not worth aging for any significant period of time. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Good Beer in New York, New York on 19-July-2014 for US$2,39 sampled at home in Washington on 18-September-2015 about fourteen months after purchase.

Pour is a near black with a small tan head. Aroma is a roasted near a char malt with a little bakers chocolate. Flavor is almost and intense burnt malt with a fresh earthiness to it. Finish is bitter and earthy. If you like you porters with a almost burnt aspect this is for you. It’s worth a sample to check out what they did with the malts here.

Nose is baking cocoa, earth. Flavor is same plus caramel, toffee, burnt sugar, ash/smoke, flashes of bitterness. Silty/chalky mouthfeel.

Poured from bottle with approx 1in of thick caramel head. Notes of coffee, chocolate, oats, and toast. Poured dark brown, chocolate to coffee color with good carbonation. This beer tasted like it smelled with chocolate and coffee notes leading to a toasty oaked finish, a very pleasing beer.

Pours very dark brown, with a tan head. Aroma of malt and coffee. Taste is similar: rich and dark taste of coffee in a good stout. Not as complex as some, but still a solid thumbs up.

Compared to other imperial stouts, it's okay but not great. Good chocolate flavors, for once not overpowered by coffee. A bit thin feeling for an imp stout, but some might reckon that's a good thing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
