My 200th rating! Had fresh at the brewery. Brewmaster Clint was a wonderful host, and many thanks to my future father-in-law for arranging the trip at his former student’s brewery. Dark, with a thick creamy head and a wonderful hop nose. Aroma of oats, chocolate, and raosted malts. Taste is rich, complex, and inviting. A little roasted flavor but coffee is the predominant flavor. Aftertaste has hints of chocolate, licorice, and a terrific balance of hops and malt. Mouthfeel is excellent.
4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jebert (315) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 4, 2010
Pours an opaque black with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is molasses and toffee. Texture is rich, hearty and creamy. Coffee notes hit the taste buds first, with caramel and molasses following. Sweet malt rounds out the taste bouquet. A rich, smooth, velvety stout that can be enjoyed alone as a banquet unto itself or paired with rich macademia nuts for a real taste treat.

12 oz bottle thanks to Duane.Pours dark brown with a quickly fading medium brown head. Aromas are coffe at first, then it sweetens up to mocha. Flavors are chocolate up front with a really nice bittering hoppy finish. Really gives ths a bittersweet chocolate flavor. Good Good stuff.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 dogfishho (275) - Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA - MAY 7, 2008
Pours a "not-quite-black" brown color with a medium dark head that sticks around for the duration. The aroma is fantastic. There are notes of cookies, caramel, brown sugar, and coffee. The flavor is very rich, but not quite as super complex as the aroma. The flavors are similar as there are chewy malts, chocolate, and the characteristic roasty, woodsiness of stouts. The mouthfeel is rich and easy. Very nice texture. Overall, a fantastic beer. Best I’ve had in a while.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2006 3/25/06 Re-rate. Draught at the brewpub in 11/05. Rich, sweet, coffee, alcohol aroma. Opaque brown body looks thinker than the Farmhouse Coffee Porter. Wonderful, tan, sheet lace. Oh yeah. This is the best CW brew in the sampler I had at the brewpub. Full flavor and packs a punch. 9/22/03: Very rich aroma. Bourbon barrel cask notes with molasses. Opaque body with thin tan head. Very thick and rich. Very good. Somewhat sour and salty mouthfeel. Chocolate notes. A little cloying and sour but enjoyable. Ar 9, Ap 4, Fl 7, Pal 4, Ov 15.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Shag (2283) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - JUN 3, 2008
UPDATED: AUG 13, 2008 A dark black appearance with a dark beige head. Aroma is chocolate, malted milk balls, and some coffee. The flavor is rather sweet with some milk chocolate, oatmeal, and a hint of coffee. The finish is slightly bitter but mainly sweet.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 corby112 (1904) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 7, 2011
Pours pitch black and comletely opaque without even the slightest hint if lighter color when heldto a light source and a two finger frothy mocha head. Excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap that coats the glass with chunks of lacing.
Deep roasted malt aroma with lots of silky chocolate malt, espresso/coffee bean, oatmeal, toffee and hazelnut. Nthere’s also a slight burnt toast character as well as a slight lactic creaminess.
On the lighter end of medium bodied with a dep roasted malt and sweet, silky chocolate notes. Slightly acrid coffee/espresso bean along with hints of chocolate, caramel, oatmeal, burnt toast and hazelnut. Again, there is some slight lactic cream notes that add to the comlexity and balance. This is kind of acrid and bitter but the creaminess, balance and all masked ABV make this pretty quaffable.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 otakuden (1558) - Vero Beach, USA - JAN 9, 2011
Appearance: black. Held up to the light faintly see-through though still black as midnight. Cappuccino head lingers as a thin ringlet surrounding a thin film. Swirls with lace.
Nose: black root, burnt toast, ash, licorice and vanilla root raw and unfettered. Chocolate covered pitted dark fruits. Heavy cream.
Palate: smooth, soft, and creamy; heavy cream. Chocolate mousse in the finish, long and lingering. Burnt goodness on top and in the middle; ash, burnt marshmallows. I’m simply amazed at the creamy mouthfeel and hints of chocolate and ash infused cream for a decadent mouthfeel. Not overly complex. Chocolate grahams and burnt wood mingle amidst chocolate covered raisins and prunes melt in the mouth not in the hands.
Final Thoughts: much like her name, she lived up to the smooth silky finesse of the finest satins, albeit made from malts of the darkest variety. Loved it and in reflection, I can taste each and every creamy moment.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - NOV 10, 2004
Tons of sweet dark chocolate in the aroma, smells like icing on a cake, very rich and warm. Some roasty coffee notes sit behind it as well. Pours ebony with a tall light tan head that leaves thick lacing behind. Taste is very coffee/chocolate rich mocha, sweet roasty and rich. Very impressive richness to this brew, smooth but still very powerful. Lots of hops in the finish to balance out the sweetness a bit. Bitter coffee trails off in the aftertaste. Very well done stout, alcohol hidden very well, nice thickness, and damn good overall personality.
