This smooth, creamy stout and a crackling fireplace are the perfect answer to a wintry evening in Wisconsin. The rich coffee flavor compliments the "warm, fuzzy feeling" you get from the abundant alcohol. Formerly a winter seasonal, named Satin Solstice.

This was at Festival Foods in east Appleton, in the case. I thought to myself, they’re definitely talking winter solstice, but I’d better pick it up anyway because I can store an Impy and see what it’s like come February when it’s actually more appropriate to drink this style. 5 minutes after I get home I crack one open :) Rich aroma of coffee, cocoa, a little nuttiness. Flavor is strong, with a lot of different tastes running around. It’s busy but good, and the presence of alcohol taste (bourbon maybe?) reminds me not to drink them all in one sitting. And so the other 5 go into storage till winter.

Tap at Proletariat. Nose of cocoa, oysters. Black with a high, fine head. Flavor is cocoa, umami, soy, oysters, dry but rich. Smooth and light.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s post GBBF minidig, 16/08/14 as Satin Solstice from an IP trade. Opaque dark mahogany brown with moderate tan edgeing. Nose is cocoa nibs, bourbon barrel notes, dark toffee. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, spice, earthy roast, chocoalte. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lightly roasted vibes. Ok a bit past its former glory perhaps.

Bottle poured into a globe.

A - Pours deep, dark, brown; bordering on black; with a nice one finger tall khaki colored head leaving light lacing down the glass.

S - Smells of rich coffee, sweet chocolate, dark roasted caramel malt, light smoke, and some dark fruit. A very faint hoppyness creeps in as it warms but it is gone before you know it.

T - Starts off with a nice chocolaty sweetness quickly giving way to a mix of dark roasted caramel malt, coffee grounds, and some dark fruits. A bit of smoke and a very dull hop bite come through as it warms up. The finish is a mix of sweetness and dark roast, lingering for a short period of time.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel with a good amount of lingering roast.

O - I enjoyed this one. It had just enough going on to keep me interested in it. Glad I got to try it.

Bottle. Solid, pleasant, middle of the road imperial stout. More chocolate and sweet than coffee and bitter. Creamy, full body, nice.

Cherry coffee and licorice in the nose. A bit of bubbly retention, not much head. Dark, a bit clear, not much off color. Very rich gritty palate, chocolate and coffee, and roasted malt. Not super complex but tasty. Bought at American Burger Bar and Beer Bistro. W00t!

Pours a dark brown with beige head fading to a ring with not much lacing. Aroma is medium roasted honey sweetness with licorice and only slight coffee. Taste is sweet mild roasted malts, some chocolate, some coffee, mild earthy hops in the end. Not bad, not great. Maybe better in winter?

Bottle as Satin Solstice, deep brown, thin head, leather and tobacco nose, dry-sweet with cocoa, gravy and old leather notes, dry finish with old wet barrel notes.

A dark brown with a khaki head that lingers on the surface. Smells of slightly vegetal hops, licorice, chocolate, coffee. Taste is chocolate sweetness with warming alcohol, coffee, tobacco, toffee, caramel malt, low earthy hop bitterness. Malty creamy but slick mouthfeel, alcohol apparent. Nice sweet warming stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from bottle into snifter. Pours dark dark brown, with thin tan head. Smell has carmel and dark malts, with a little bit of coffee undertone. Taste has some sweet-ish dark malts, with the slightest coffee undertones and slightly bitter finish, with no apparent booze burn at all. Nice, smooth feel. Pretty good beer from a pretty solid brewery. Kind of lower abv than I’m accostomed to in an imperial stout, but doesn’t take away from the experience at all.
